Position Purpose Summary:
The Salvation Army Penticton is seeking a dedicated, organized, and compassionate Community and Family Services / Food Bank Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Community and Family Services and Food Bank programs.
This position provides leadership and supervision across food bank operations, community outreach, warehousing, client services, fundraising activities, staff scheduling, donor relations, and volunteer coordination. The successful candidate will work closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, donors, and the Commanding Officers to ensure that services are delivered efficiently, respectfully, and in keeping with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
The Community and Family Services / Food Bank Supervisor will be an important member of the management team and will participate in the planning, development, and implementation of programs and services that meet the needs of individuals and families in the Penticton community.
KEY Accountabilities:
1. Community and Family Services Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of Community and Family Services and Food Bank programs.
- Ensure programs and services are organized, efficient, welcoming, and responsive to community needs.
- Assist with the development and implementation of community outreach initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen existing programs and develop new community-based initiatives.
- Maintain positive relationships with community organizations, agencies, churches, businesses, donors, and other partners.
- Represent The Salvation Army at community events and functions as required.
2. Community Outreach and Fundraising
- Assist in organizing and implementing fundraising events and community initiatives.
- Attend fundraising events and community activities on behalf of The Salvation Army.
- Take an active role in developing fundraising opportunities and community partnerships.
- Work with the management team to identify opportunities for financial and in-kind support.
- Assist with donor relations and ensure donors are treated with appreciation, professionalism, and respect.
- Support food drives, community campaigns, and other initiatives designed to increase resources available to Community and Family Services.
3. Food Bank and Warehouse Supervision
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Food Bank warehouse.
- Supervise inventory control, including receiving, storing, rotating, and distributing food products.
- Ensure food is handled, stored, and distributed appropriately and safely.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify current and anticipated needs.
- Coordinate food and product pickups and deliveries.
- Develop and maintain regular pickup schedules.
- Coordinate with donors and suppliers regarding food and product donations.
- Ensure warehouse areas are organized, clean, safe, and operating efficiently.
- Supervise warehouse staff and ensure appropriate scheduling and coverage.
4. Front-End and Client Services Supervision
- Provide supervision of front-end Food Bank operations.
- Ensure clients are greeted and treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and confidentiality.
- Oversee client intake and registration procedures.
- Supervise the distribution of food and other available resources.
- Supervise front-end employees and ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
- Address client concerns and assist staff in resolving issues appropriately.
- Ensure established policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Help create a welcoming and respectful environment for individuals and families accessing services.
5. Staff Supervision and Scheduling
- Participate in staff scheduling and ensure appropriate coverage for Food Bank and Community and Family Services operations.
- Establish clear weekly routines and expectations for staff.
- Provide direction, coaching, and support to employees.
- Monitor staff performance and address operational concerns as required.
- Assist with training and orientation of new employees.
- Promote teamwork, communication, accountability, and a positive workplace environment.
6. Volunteer Oversight
- Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure effective use of volunteers.
- Assist with scheduling and assigning volunteers according to operational needs.
- Monitor and record volunteer hours as required.
- Assign volunteer duties based on individual capabilities, skills, experience, and operational requirements.
- Establish weekly volunteer routines and ensure volunteers understand their responsibilities.
- Provide direction, encouragement, and support to volunteers.
- Ensure volunteers are appropriately utilized throughout warehouse, food bank, front-end, and community service activities.
- Help foster a positive and respectful volunteer environment that encourages volunteer retention and continued involvement.
7. Management Team Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of The Salvation Army Penticton management team.
- Attend regular management meetings.
- Participate in organizational planning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Communicate operational needs, challenges, successes, and opportunities to the Commanding Officers and management team.
- Work collaboratively with other managers and supervisors to ensure continuity and effective operation of Salvation Army programs and services.
- Support the overall mission, vision, values, and ministry of The Salvation Army Penticton.
Health & Safety:
- Participate as a committee member of Joint Health and Safety

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Material:
- Oversees food inventory, donations, supplies, and equipment.
- Ensures proper storage, handling, and distribution of food and other resources.
- Coordinates food procurement and donation collection activities.
- Maintains inventory records and monitors stock levels.
- Ensures compliance with food safety, health, and organizational standards.
Financial:
- Processes purchasing requests and maintains financial records as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position involves a combination of administrative, supervisory, warehouse, front-end, community outreach, and client-facing responsibilities. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a busy environment, responding to changing community needs, and providing leadership to both employees and volunteers.The position may occasionally require participation in evening or weekend events, fundraising activities, community outreach, or other Salvation Army initiatives.

- High School diploma
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Experience supervising employees and/or volunteers.
- Experience with inventory control, warehousing, food distribution, or related operations is an asset.
- Experience working in a community service, non-profit, social service, or charitable organization is an asset.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $48,048.00 to $60,070.40 with a maximum of $72,072.00.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
