Verathon® is looking for an Electrical Engineer III to become the newest member of our Urology R&D team located in Bothell, WA. This role is expected to work primarily on-site at our Bothell facility and will design and develop electronic systems and components including camera, lighting, and circuit board systems, for an exciting new program targeted at improving patient outcomes in a urological endoscopy procedure - offering the opportunity to shape our newest urology product within Verathon's established new product development (NPD) framework.
The Electrical Engineer III is responsible for the electronic design, analysis, and development of complex medical device systems. This includes translating system requirements into detailed circuit and PCB designs, conducting engineering analysis across analog and digital domains, developing and testing prototypes, supporting design verification and validation activities, and ensuring designs meet EMI/EMC requirements and regulatory compliance standards. Utilizing Verathon's NPD process and Quality Management System, the Electrical Engineer III serves as a core technical contributor working closely with systems engineering, mechanical engineering, firmware, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a core technical contributor on major development projects or multiple simultaneous projects, working independently with review at critical points
- Ensure that engineering design activities follow the development procedure and maintain strict design control
- Develop electronic systems and documentation in compliance with applicable medical device standards, regulatory requirements, and Verathon design control procedures.
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders, component vendors, and contract manufacturers to design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
- Adapt communication style to differing technical and non-technical audiences
- Design robust analog and digital multilayer PCBs and flex circuits.
- Investigate design approaches, evaluate tradeoffs, and develop solutions to complex technical problems through analysis, prototyping, and bench testing..
- Support project scope, proposals, and expense controls. Develop business justifications and cost proposals for capital equipment, prototyping, and V&V activities.
- Integrate and interface specific subsystem technologies including camera and imaging sensors, other sensor interfaces, LED lighting drive circuits, power conversion, microprocessors, data storage, and high-speed interfaces into complex multilayer rigid, flex, and hybrid PCB designs
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex EMI/EMC issues; apply design techniques for impedance control and electromagnetic compatibility to meet regulatory emissions and immunity requirements
- Mentor team members and share technical knowledge through formal and informal collaboration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a relevant engineering field of study is required.
- Proficiency in PCB design (schematic capture and layout) using industry-standard EDA tools; Altium Designer or equivalent preferred
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 3 years and a Master’s degree or PhD.3+ years of experience in the medical device industry or other highly regulated industry (aerospace, defense, or similar)
- Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Experience with simulation tools (SPICE, LTspice, or equivalent) and scripting languages (Python or MATLAB) for circuit analysis and test automation is preferred
- Technical expertise in camera systems and imaging sensors (CCD/CMOS), LED lighting design and drive circuitry, circuit board design, power conversion and management, and microprocessors is preferred
- Working knowledge of medical device development processes, including design controls, risk management, verification/validation, and applicable regulatory standards particularly diagnostic imaging or endoscopy systems, is preferred
- Experience with flex PCB technology, high-density interconnect (HDI) design, RF/high-speed signal design, or FPGA integration is preferred.
Salary range - $114,103 - $147,344 (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
Full-time employees who are not on a commission plan are eligible for Verathon’s annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
