Description
Crescent is a differentiated U.S. energy company committed to delivering value through a disciplined, returns-driven growth through acquisition strategy and consistent return of capital. Our long-life, balanced portfolio combines significant cash flow from stable production with a deep, high-quality development inventory. Crescent is a top three producer in the Eagle Ford basin and a scaled operator in each of the Permian and Uinta basins. Crescent’s leadership is an experienced team of investment, financial and industry professionals that combines proven investment and operating expertise. For more than a decade, Crescent and our predecessors have executed on a consistent strategy focused on cash flow, risk management and returns. Through disciplined and accretive investments, we have successfully tripled the size of our company since going public in December 2021 while maintaining a strong balance sheet.
The Operations Engineer – Well Interventions will be responsible for the engineering, planning, and execution of Crescent Energy's growing heavy workover and well intervention program.
Initial activity will be focused on refracs, recompletions, lateral cleanouts, and complex well interventions, with the scope expected to expand as the program develops.
This position will work closely with Drilling, Completions, Production, Reservoir Engineering, Asset Development, and Supply Chain to evaluate opportunities and safely execute technically complex well interventions. As an early member of a developing function, this individual will also play a key role in establishing the technical standards, operating practices, cost benchmarks, and processes required to scale the program.
The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with significant field and operational experience and is comfortable troubleshooting complex well conditions and making real-time operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer, plan, and execute heavy workover and well intervention operations, including refracs, recompletions, lateral cleanouts, re-entry operations, casing remediation, and other complex interventions.
- Evaluate proposed workover candidates for technical feasibility, operational risk, expected duration, and execution cost.
- Review historical well construction, completion design, casing/tubular condition, cementing history, production history, previous interventions, pressure history, and known well-integrity issues.
- Develop detailed operational programs including well-control requirements, barrier philosophy, equipment selection, operating procedures, pressure limitations, risk assessments, and contingency plans.
- Develop AFE estimates, cost forecasts, and execution schedules and track actual performance against plan.
- Lead pre-job planning, risk reviews, and operational readiness reviews with internal teams, field personnel, and service providers.
- Provide direct engineering support during field execution and lead troubleshooting of unplanned or abnormal operating conditions.
- Coordinate workover rigs, coiled tubing, snubbing, wireline, hydraulic fracturing, fishing, pressure-control equipment, flowback, and other specialty services as required.
- Work with Supply Chain to develop appropriate vendor strategies, commercial structures, and service-provider performance expectations.
- Develop and maintain standardized Heavy Workover engineering practices, program templates, operating procedures, and execution standards.
- Lead post-job reviews and incorporate lessons learned into subsequent designs and operating practices.
- Develop performance benchmarks including $/well, days/well, NPT, intervention success rate, and AFE vs. actual performance.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, well control, well integrity, operational discipline, and capital efficiency.
- Support development of a longer-term inventory of technically executable heavy workover opportunities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Strong experience in drilling, completions, production operations, workovers, or well interventions.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute field operating programs.
- Strong understanding of well control, barriers, tubulars, pressure limitations, and well integrity.
- Experience developing operational cost estimates/AFEs and managing cost and schedule performance.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and operational decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with field personnel/service companies.
- Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field during critical operations.
Preferred
Experience with several of the following:
- Refracs and recompletions
- Horizontal unconventional wells
- Coiled tubing
- Snubbing
- Workover rigs
- Lateral cleanouts
- Fishing operations
- Casing remediation
- Hydraulic fracturing
- Production casing/tubular failures
- Well-control operations
- Pressure-control equipment
- Artificial lift removal/reinstallation associated with interventions
- Flowback and return-to-production operations
