Department: Tax Consulting / Finance
About the Role
Are you an experienced tax professional looking for a long-term career opportunity in a growing, highly collaborative tax firm?
We are seeking a dedicated Steuerfachangestellte/r or Steuerfachwirt/in to join a close-knit, multi-generational team in Bamberg. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping accounting and payroll processes, managing diverse client portfolios, and driving the firm's active transition and optimization within DATEV. If you are looking for a role with high autonomy, flexible hours, and clear ownership—including the opportunity to take on a lead role in payroll—we would love to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting & Statements: Prepare full financial accounting (Finanzbuchhaltung) and draft annual financial statements for your assigned small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) client portfolio across diverse industries.
- Payroll Accounting & Ownership: Perform accurate monthly payroll accounting (Lohnbuchhaltung) and optionally step up into a lead role for firm-wide payroll processes and complex payroll topics.
- DATEV Optimization & System Migration: Actively contribute to and co-design the ongoing migration of client mandates and payrolls to DATEV, utilizing and optimizing DATEV modules across the practice.
- Client Advisory: Serve as a primary, reliable point of contact for clients on day-to-day accounting, payroll, and financial questions.
- Quality Assurance & Collaboration: Review accounting work of junior colleagues where applicable, ensure compliance with official tax deadlines, and foster continuous process improvements.
- Optional Mandate Expansion: Opportunity to onboard and manage your own client portfolio if desired, directly contributing to the firm's growth.
Candidate Profile
Must-Haves
- Education & Qualification: Completed vocational training as a Tax Clerk (Ausbildung als Steuerfachangestellte/r). Advanced training as a Tax Specialist (Steuerfachwirt/in) or Certified Accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter/in) is welcomed, provided you have a background in tax clerk training.
- DATEV Proficiency: Multi-year hands-on experience using DATEV applications (both accounting and payroll modules).
- Payroll Expertise: Solid practical experience in processing payroll and a strong willingness to handle payroll tasks regularly.
- Language Skills: German fluency at C1 level or higher to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and authorities.
- On-site Presence: Commitment to predominantly on-site work in Bamberg (ad-hoc work from home available by agreement after onboarding), residing in or within reasonable daily commuting distance to Bamberg.
- Mindset: Strong team spirit, collaborative attitude, and proactive hands-on mindset—a true team player rather than a lone wolf.
Nice-to-Haves
- Completed further training as a Steuerfachwirt/in.
- Experience in software migrations, process optimization, or digital tax office workflows.
- Ambition and capability to assume a functional lead role in the payroll department.
- Ability to bring an existing client portfolio to the firm (optional).
What We Offer (Core Benefits)
- Attractive Compensation: Competitive annual salary between €36,000 and €60,000 (gross monthly salary ranging from €3,000 to €5,000 based on experience and qualification).
- Work-Life Balance & Flexibility: Flexible working schedules from 25 to 40 hours per week, generous 30 vacation days per year, and ad-hoc home office option after onboarding.
- Long-Term Security: A permanent, full-time or part-time contract in a growing, established tax office with three tax partners (Berufsangehörige).
- Great Office Culture: A warm, family-like environment with a multi-generational team, supportive colleagues, and regular team events (e.g., summer parties and Christmas celebrations).
- High Degree of Impact: Significant creative freedom to shape DATEV workflows and lead key operational areas.
