Overview

Oversees one to five smaller sized and less complex projects. Projects usually consist of multiple disciplines including fire protection, plumbing, HVAC and electrical. Assembles project team, assigns individual responsibilities, develops project schedules and is responsible for project execution, quality, client satisfaction, and determining and acquiring the internal resources needed. May perform technical tasks on projects. Generally assigned projects with values under $50,000. Assists with preparing proposals for the project he/she will manage to determine and acquire resources needed. Must be familiar with the entire scope and requirement of project(s) and serves as liaison between team members and functional area management requesting projects.
Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied on non- routine work. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments. Receives instruction on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions. Assistance is provided on unusual problems, and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. Has the authority to reject any report, opinion, design or any other document prior to the submission to clients. May not change the scope of work or deviate from the contractual agreement without prior written approval from the client.
Collaborates with project members who will work on projects and how they will be completed. Has the responsibility to assign tasks, establish schedules, instruct team members and critique efforts within the project team. May seek guidance and mentoring from senior project managers and Market Leaders.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall supervision of projects which are assigned to ensure that the project conforms to the contractual agreement the firm has made with the client.
- Assists with the contractual agreement with the client for review and signature by NV5 staff based on the commitment authority matrix.
- Assists in the development of tasks to define project work scope, budgets and schedules.
- Responsible for the accuracy and quality of all technical work.
- Monitors project tasks to maintain budget, schedule and scope of work.
- Requests and obtains approval of additional services before performing services beyond the scope of work.
- Prepares periodic (monthly, quarterly, etc.) status reports to be issued to the client and/or for use by a senior Project Manager.
- Participates in presentations to clients.
- Follows-up on outstanding invoices.
- Coordinates and tracks project deliverables in accordance with the project schedule.
- Maintains project electronic files.
- Responsible for the development of client communications.
- Responsible for invoices including preliminary review of pre-bills.
- Edits or reviews technical content prepared by others for reports or other deliverables.
- Responsible for all written work submitted to the client.
- Ensure proposals are prepared in a timely manner and submitted to the client.
- Maintains client management to retain clients and obtain future projects from clients.
- Attend client meetings.
Financial Management:
- Understands basic revenue models, and percent complete projections and makes decisions accordingly.
- Works within, and understands, our pricing model and billing procedures.
- Accurately forecasts revenue, profitability, margins, and utilization.
- Conducts monthly revenue reviews of the project financials with the team and with senior leadership.
Communication
- Facilitates team and client meetings effectively.
- Holds regular status meetings with project team.
- Keeps project team well informed of changes within the organization.
- Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.
- Resolves and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years progressive Assistant Project Manager experience or 5-8 years progressive engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of both.
- Recommended bachelor’s or associate degree in business administration, Engineering, Architecture or related field.
- Must be able to travel to worksites as needed or required.
- Must have general understanding of design or commissioning project requirements.
- Must have the ability to utilize computer systems (Vision) to effectively manage projects.
- Recommended to have a general understanding of CAD operations.
- Must be capable of managing multiple projects and project teams.
