Overview
The Fire Safety Monitor is responsible for overseeing the safety of personnel working inside tanks and confined spaces. This role issues VPro personal monitors and conducts periodic visual and audible checks in accordance with MDD-00209, on a roving basis.
To ensure safe working conditions, the Fire Safety Monitor uses the VPASS (ETM) Electronic Tank Monitoring System to track employee activity. They monitor worker status and location through live data displayed on the INET dashboard and maintain all required log records.
The Fire Safety Monitor will receive and dispatch requests via portable radio or phone. They will also assist with employee evacuations when directed, and perform any additional duties assigned by ETM supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet all requirements of MDD-00209, (ETM) Electronic Tank Monitoring system
- Support the ETM system by recognizing, identifying and reporting issues
- Diagnose and fix minor issues with the ETM system
- Issue VPro’s to employees
- Moving “Radius” signal boosters into place for best signal performance
- Resetting RGX box’s
- Monitor worker status, location and sensor reading on the ETM system
- Verifying tank exhaust ventilation tags
- Monitor, maintain, update, and test ETM Communication Centers
- Support the facility fire protection programs and enforce all requirements of Nav-Sea sections 045, NFPA 1, 10, 13, 2572 and 101, Local, state & Federal fire code regulations

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- Available to work all shifts
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
- Ability to obtain a secret clearance through the Department of Defence
Preferred:
- Associate’s degree or higher
- Experience working in industrial, shipyard, manufacturing, or construction environments
- Prior experience with confined space operations or fire watch/fire safety duties
- Completion of any fire safety, OSHA, NFPA, or similar safety-related training courses
