Description

Location: Lake Oswego, Oregon | Hybrid — minimum three days per week in office

OCP is seeking an accomplished, forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help shape the next chapter of our organization. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO will turn strategy into action—leading critical business operations, developing high-performing teams, strengthening financial and operational performance, and advancing technology, data, and responsible AI initiatives. This is an opportunity for a collaborative, mission-driven leader to make a meaningful enterprise-wide impact while fostering a culture grounded in humility, empathy, passion, accountability, and continuous improvement.

WHO WE ARE

OCP is a self-supporting, non-profit Catholic publishing company striving to help people encounter God and His love through music and liturgical resources. At OCP, Empathy, Humility, and Passion are the core values that shape our culture and organizational health. We support our employees with opportunities for growth and engagement and provide an outstanding compensation and benefits package to care for our employees and their families.  We think it’s a great place to work, and we think you will, too. If you are interested in joining our team and have the experiences described below, we would love to hear from you.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) provides executive leadership and oversight of OCP’s operations, translating organizational strategy into effective operational plans, priorities, and results.  As a key member of the Publishers Leadership Team (PLT), the COO partners with the CEO and other senior leaders to develop, implement, and monitor OCP’s strategic and operational plans.

The COO ensures that day-to-day operations are effective, efficient, and aligned with OCP’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Success will be measured by the COO’s ability to strengthen financial and operational performance; engage and develop people; advance technology, processes, security, and data governance; and enable sustainable business growth.

This position leads OCP’s Shared Services divisions, including IT, Realization, HR, Business Services/Finance and EPMO (Enterprise Portfolio Management Office), ensuring clear objectives, priorities, accountability, and performance measures while fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operational Oversight: Provide executive oversight and leadership across OCP’s operational functions, ensuring smooth workflows, efficient processes, cross-functional alignment, and execution of organizational priorities.

• Strategic Implementation: Translate the company’s strategic vision into actionable operational plans and initiatives; monitor progress toward strategic and financial goals.

• Financial Management and Accountability: Working with the CFO and other directors, prepare, implement, and monitor the annual operational and capital budgets that support strategic objectives, maximize growth, and improve operating income. Prepare and report results to the Board of Directors and board subcommittees. Prepare the annual budget for General Management and operational profit centers.

• Business Intelligence and Reporting: Monitor and report on company metrics and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational effectiveness, project progress, and financial goals.

• Governance and Board Relations: Partner with the CEO and CFO as liaison with the Board of Directors and Board Committees (Budget and Finance, Audit, Investment), ensuring transparency and accountability.

• Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for continuous process improvement, cost savings and operational efficiency through technology, accessible data, automation and best practices.

• Leadership and Team Development: Lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams by setting clear goals, providing coaching and mentorship, and fostering a collaborative, high-trust environment.

• Business Growth and Innovation: Identify opportunities for new business development, partnerships, and service diversification that leverage OCP’s strengths and enhance its reach and impact.

• Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure operational compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards (including GAAP, employment law, IT security and PCI compliance, and business continuity measures).

• Vendor and Strategic Partner Management: Provide executive oversight of key vendor and partnership relationships and agreements, ensuring appropriate terms, service levels, performance standards, risk management, and value to OCP.  Optimize shipping and distribution strategies to improve customer experience, reduce costs, protect margins, and maximize revenue opportunities.

• Participate in PLT and director meetings to strengthen communication, improve decision-making, and drive programs forward.

• Oversee the effective operations of OCP’s Lake Oswego headquarters. Ensure a safe, clean, and functional office environment for employees, guests, and visitors.

• Partner with HR Director to optimize organizational health through effective employee engagement, communications, clarity of company priorities, continuous performance management, and fair compensation and benefits.

• Technology, Data and Cybersecurity: Parter with the Information Technology leader to ensure system and network availability, effective business tools, data integrity, cybersecurity, and appropriate technology governance across the organization.

• AI Strategy and Governance: Provide executive oversight for OCP's responsible adoption and governance of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, ensuring AI initiatives align with organizational strategy, ethical standards, data security requirements, legal obligations, and operational priorities.

• Consistently demonstrate and champion OCP’s core values of humility, empathy, and passion, ensuring an engaging work culture and vibrant workforce.
