Van Driver

To provides transportation to individuals of all ages as scheduled to satisfy medical appointments, recreational activities and shopping. This is a job, operating a passenger van on a demand response system.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Operate gasoline or diesel powered multi-passenger vehicles to transport passengers between destinations and a safe manner consistent with all MDT rules and regulations
2. Check before every trip, the condition of a vehicle's operational and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in safe working condition. Fill out daily van inspection form. Report any van malfunctions or needed repairs to the scheduler. Prepare and submit reports that include the number of passengers or trips, trip purpose, mileage, etc. Notify scheduler if rider doesn't show. Turn in trip sheets, fuel receipts and payments daily. Pre-trip inspection sheets in weekly.
3. Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
4. Comply with all traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
5. Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to the proper agency or scheduler.
6. Pick up and drop off passengers at scheduled locations, following time schedules.
7. Provide directions and information about van schedules, facilities and operations to the passengers as needed. Have knowledge that the van is on a first come first service system. Serve as liaison between passengers and scheduler. Establish good rapport with passengers.
8. Provide assistance to passengers, including but not limited to operation of wheelchair lift and securement devices; assistance with boarding and deboarding, transfers from seat to seat, etc. Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort, clean the van after each trip. Maneuver wheelchairs on and off ramp, up curbs and over thresholds. Assist with small packages as needed. Secure all packages.
9. Maintain confidentially of sensate or personal information.
10. Operate telephone, cell phone for communication with scheduler.
11. Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures and CPR. Maintain order among passengers during trips, in order to ensure safety.
12. Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
    

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience/Knowledge/Education/Specialized Training Required:

A High School Diploma or GED, and 1 to 3 years experience in operating a passenger van, preferably in skilled-care nursing home environment, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Montana drivers license and show proof of insurability. Successfully pass the GCMC pre-employment driving test; DOT pre-employment drug test and recurring random drug test. Must pass criminal and sexual or violent offenders check. Meet all health requirements required by law. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure, establish priorities and adapt to change. Ability to work with elderly patients. A self-motivated, creative, and positive personality. Ability to work with staff, family members, and community. Possess patience, good organizational skills, assertiveness, and be a conscientious person. Present a professional appearance. Be available for training, including overnight out of town events. Be flexible in working hours so that weekend or evening events may be provided.

Nature of Work: This position operates a passenger van and provides residents and patients with assistance in indoor and outdoor environments during normal business hours of GCMC. Work is occasionally required beyond normal business hours to meet resident/patient needs. Information handled by this position is sensitive in nature and confidentiality is required.
