What you will be doing

You will be on a development journey to guide your growth into the role of System Safety & Reliability Specialist and can expect to be involved in the following:

Working / Interfacing with a team of around 70+ safety engineers which is based in five separate locations around Europe and which is accountable for the safety activities (functional and physical) for all Airbus aircraft systems.

System Safety and Reliability within the UK works predominantly on the Landing Gear and Fuel systems and supports Systems, Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and Structures Engineering teams. Our team work on all Aircraft and projects throughout the development lifecycle of an Aircraft; starting with R&T projects, to Flight Test campaigns (for example ULR, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)), through to Entry Into Service and a key contributor to supporting the Continued Airworthiness of the full Airbus Aircraft fleet.

We cover 4 keys areas of work which includes:

  • Functional Safety - which encompasses System Safety Assessment, analysing the Aircraft Systems to identify Failure Modes and assist the Design Office to ensure compliance.

  • Continued Airworthiness - We provide Safety Assessments for in-service occurrences on all Airbus Commercial Aircrafts for the Fuel and Landing Gear Systems.

  • Particular Risk Analysis (PRA) - We cover two primary PRAs within the UK (Wheel and Tyre Failure and Fuel Tank Safety), both of which have a global Aircraft Impact and are significant overall Aircraft Design Drivers.

  • Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA) - We inspect new designs and modifications both digitally and physically to ensure compliance to Design and Safety Requirements.

These tasks involve a good knowledge of system architectures, behaviours and a good understanding of system installation.

Moreover, the transnational nature of the team allows the possibility to work on all aircraft systems including Flight controls, Cockpit, Hydraulics, etc.. The safety activities involve close relationships and collaboration between several teams across Airbus which involves the Design Office, Chief engineering organisation, Flight Test and Certification teams. Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge utilising the extensive training available and the international experts within the team.

Your development journey will include a minimum of one rotational placement to support your growth into position. This will be tailored to the experiences of the graduate and may involve the interfacing departments listed above.

At the end of the two year development programme you will have developed into the position of System Safety & Reliability Engineer!
