The Campbell Police Department is seeking a motivated, service-oriented professional who wants to be part of an innovative and technology-driven law enforcement agency.

As a Community Services Officer with the Campbell Police Department, you will work alongside sworn officers and professional staff utilizing some of the most advanced public safety technology available, including drones, real-time crime and intelligence systems, next-generation communications technology, automated evidence management, and cutting-edge investigative tools. CSO's play an integral role in supporting these operations while gaining broad experience in field services, investigations, crime scene processing, prisoner booking and transport, and other essential police support functions.

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of law enforcement duties and assignments which do not require the legal powers of a sworn officer including investigations, patrol, animal services, records, parks, and traffic assignments, prisoner transport, and technical support.Performs a wide variety of civilian duties for the Police Department, including but not limited to:
  • Performs field work in the enforcement of parking regulations, ordinances, and laws;
  • Issues citations for parking and zoning violations;
  • Enforces laws and ordinances as required;
  • Arranges to have vehicles towed as necessary;
  • Prepares reports;
  • Processes crime scenes for evidence;
  • Observes and reports hazardous conditions, and other emergencies;
  • Provides traffic control;
  • Receives complaints and reports of routine criminal and non-criminal incidents from the public;
  • Assists with completing bookings on arrestees;
  • Transports prisoners to County jail;
  • Maintains records;
  • Prepares necessary reports and appears in court to present evidence and testimony as required;
  • Renders first aid and/or CPR when necessary;
  • Operates a variety of office equipment; maintains and operates department equipment;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Equivalent to graduation from high school; and 
  • One year of paid or volunteer work experience involving considerable contact with general public.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a 160 hour corrections academy course within one year from date of hire.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the required 832 PC class within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge of:
  • Policies and procedures of the police department;
  • Laws, regulations, and civil and criminal statutes of appropriate agencies;
  • Provisions of the California Vehicle Code applicable to municipal traffic and vehicle control;
  • Basic law enforcement terminology;
  • Crime prevention techniques and materials;
  • Standard record keeping and report writing procedures and techniques;
  • Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar;
  • Common word processing, and customer service skills..
Ability to:
  • Understand and execute oral and written instructions;
  • Be courteous, but firm, in maintaining effective communications with the general public in normal and stressful situations;
  • Deal effectively with irate or uncooperative individuals, analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action to resolve problems;
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely, courteously, and in accordance with traffic laws and departmental policy;
  • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet strict deadlines;
  • Communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner, both orally and in writing;
  • Read and understand laws, ordinances, departmental policies, rules and instructions;
  • Observe, record memorize, and recall names, places, and incidents;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
  • Work in a team-based environment and achieve common goals;
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time;
  • Bend, stoop, reach, carry, crawl, climb and lift as necessary to perform assigned duties;
  • Perform work in various environments including inside and outside in any weather.
Possession of:
  • Valid California Driver's License.
