Schedule: Monday-Friday, split shift
Morning Shift: 5:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m.
Afternoon Shift: 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

First Student is hiring an experienced Dispatcher to help lead the daily flow of transportation service for the Derry and Chester School Districts.

Dispatch is where the day comes together. You will coordinate route coverage, communicate with drivers, respond to unexpected changes, and help ensure students arrive safely and on time. This is an active, fast-moving position for someone who enjoys solving problems, communicating with different groups, and keeping an operation organized.

Candidates with previous transportation dispatch or high-volume call center experience will be especially well prepared for this role. If you are comfortable handling frequent calls, managing competing priorities, and remaining calm when plans change, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

• Coordinate daily bus routes and driver assignments
• Ensure routes are properly covered and operating on time
• Monitor service throughout the morning and afternoon route periods
• Respond quickly to driver absences, delays, vehicle issues, and route changes
• Handle a high volume of telephone and radio communications
• Provide drivers and monitors with clear, accurate, and timely information
• Communicate delays and service updates to school district contacts and location leadership
• Help resolve student pick-up and drop-off concerns
• Counsel and coach drivers and monitors on operational expectations
• Receive scheduling concerns and driver complaints and direct them to the appropriate operations leader
• Serve as a primary communication liaison with the Derry and Chester School Districts
• Maintain accurate dispatch logs, route updates, and operational records
• Assist with charter reservations, billing, driver payroll, and other administrative duties as needed
• Perform backup driver duties when properly licensed, qualified, and assigned
• Assist with the supervision of daily transportation operations
• Complete special projects and additional location-support responsibilities

What You’ll Bring

• Three to five years of experience in a call center, transportation dispatch, logistics, terminal operations, customer service, or a related fast-paced environment
• Previous transportation dispatch or high-volume call center experience strongly preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience handling frequent telephone calls while documenting information accurately
• Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
• Strong communication and customer-service skills
• Ability to remain calm, organized, and professional during service disruptions
• Ability to make timely decisions and communicate clear next steps
• Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping
• Ability to manage several priorities, conversations, and service needs at the same time
• Computer literacy, including email, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and related systems
• Dependable attendance and the ability to work both portions of the split shift
• Previous experience working with drivers, routes, schedules, or transportation customers is highly valued
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements when performing safety-sensitive duties. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
