Description
- Objective:
- The Field Technician performs fiber-optic splicing and aerial/underground cable placement.
- Field Technicians must troubleshoot and restore service outages and respond to service calls. They must assess network capacity to support service requests and propose solutions when network capacity is unavailable.
- Field Technicians monitor, maintain, and restore the health of all outside plant, network access equipment, and customer premise devices. This may include outside construction-related activities to expand the network, upgrade existing network access equipment, or modify existing outside plant and network access equipment to meet and exceed all network demands.
- The Field Technician strives to provide maximum service to Fastnet customers by ensuring work is completed safely, economically, and efficiently.

- Responsibilities
- Perform Personally the Following Activities Unique to this Position: 
- Work closely with Customer Service Representatives to maintain an aggressive, achievable home installation schedule.
- Respond in a friendly and courteous manner to all service requests.
- Monitor, maintain, and restore the health of outside plant and network access equipment.
- Install and configure necessary outside plant and network access equipment. Report on the status of said equipment back to the (TBD)
- Communicate construction completion with anydepartment dependent upon outside communication and fiber plant; work with said departments to maintain accurate and up-to-date as-built records.
- Supervise proper maintenance and care of all tools and equipment assigned.
- Supervise adequate stocking of line materials on vehicles and check in and out materials for jobs to be done, as assigned.
- Upon completion of any fiber-related construction, ensure that all construction and service standards are met.
- Complete as-built records to maintain an accurate fiber plant management system.
- Investigate, recommend, and complete effective solutions to customer complaints, communicating as needed. Address customer complaints to proper completion as required by Fastnet, ensuring prompt, courteous, and helpful responses as complaints are resolved.
- Find and perform maintenance on fiber lines during outages.
- Operate all types of vehicles and associated equipment.
- Inform the supervisor of the progress of work done, including deviations to construction standards.
- Determine when a hazard exists that cannot be worked normally and request instructions from the immediate supervisor.
- Maintain great relations with customers and the public in fulfilling the position's responsibilities.
- Train other Field Technicians to complete job-related responsibilities. Develop job-based knowledge, skills, and abilities in other team members.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.
- Will be subject to 24-hour call-out.
- Has a thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and can administer first aid, including artificial respiration. Able to instruct those they supervise in all phases of these items.
- WILL OBSERVE ALL SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS AS REQUIRED.
- Pole climbing and bucket truck operation.
