Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C) – SCAN Team (Child Abuse & Neglect)

Department: Safe Child and Adolescent Network (SCAN) Program

FTE Status: 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week)

Location: Seattle Children's Hospital – Main Campus (Seattle, WA)

Schedule: Daytime shifts (Includes rotating weekends & holidays – Pay Plan B)

Work Model: Hybrid (Approx. 75% In-Person / 25% Remote)

Role Summary

Seattle Children’s Hospital is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and detail-oriented Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our specialized Safe Child and Adolescent Network (SCAN) team in a 0.6 FTE (24 hours/week) role.

In this position, you will work collaboratively alongside board-certified child abuse pediatricians, social workers, and multidisciplinary teams to provide specialized, trauma-informed evaluation and management for children referred for concerns of maltreatment. You will conduct independent patient assessments, participate in complex team-based evaluations, and provide expert consultation and clinical recommendations.

Because of the specialized nature of child protection clinical work, this role requires exceptional diagnostic thoroughness, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to navigate legal proceedings, including delivering expert medical testimony and depositions when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment & Management: Conduct comprehensive physical evaluations, trauma-informed medical histories, and diagnostic evaluations for children referred for concern of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, or emotional maltreatment.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with SCAN attending physicians, pediatric subspecialists, hospital social work, Child Protective Services (CPS), and law enforcement agencies.

  • Consultation & Recommendations: Formulate detailed medical assessment reports, safety evaluations, and individualized care recommendations for both inpatient and outpatient referrals.

  • Legal Proceedings & Testimony: Prepare medicolegal documentation and provide professional testimony in legal proceedings, including court hearings and depositions, as required.

  • Patient & Family Engagement: Provide compassionate, objective, and empathetic communication to patients, families, and caregivers during high-stress encounters.

Work Schedule & Location

  • FTE Commitment: 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week).

  • Primary Location: Seattle Children's Hospital Main Campus (Seattle, WA).

  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid model with predominantly in-person clinical responsibilities and approximately 25% remote work for administrative tasks, follow-up, and report completion.

  • Shift/Hours: Daytime shifts. Position requires participation in a weekend and holiday coverage rotation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education & Licensure:

    • Active Washington State ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) or PA-C (Physician Assistant - Certified) license (or eligible for licensure prior to start date).

    • Current DEA registration and BLS certification.

  • Required Experience:

    • Demonstrated experience in Child Abuse Pediatrics, Child Protection, or SCAN evaluations.

  • Considered Alternative Experience:

    • Candidates without direct child abuse specialty experience will be considered if they possess strong, related background in:

      • Pediatric Emergency Medicine (ED)

      • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

      • Pediatric Trauma Care

  

Required Education and Experience:

Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program.

Demonstrated experience in Child Abuse Pediatrics, Child Protection, or SCAN evaluations.

Considered Alternative Experience:

Candidates without direct child abuse specialty experience will be considered if they possess strong, related background in:

  • Pediatric Emergency Medicine (ED)

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

  • Pediatric Trauma Care

Required Credentials:

For Nurse Practitioners:

Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington.

Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner

For Physician Assistants:

Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington

Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

For All Providers:

Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.

Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.

Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment.

Preferred:

Two years experience in advanced practice provider role

Two years experience in pediatric health care

Compensation Range

$82,392 - $121,176 per year (Pro-rated compensation)

Note: This position is currently eligible for an off-shift premium of up to 3% which would increase the total compensation of this role by an additional $2,471 to $3,635 per year.

  

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
