JOB TITLE: Platteau Student Art Center Manager


JOB PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of a Campus Living staff member, the Platteau Student Art Center Manager provides support for the Platteau Student Art Center. The Platteau is located in the bottom level of Platt Hall.


The purpose of the Platteau Student Art Center is to provide accessible practice, performance, and creative space for currently enrolled Lewis & Clark College undergraduate students. Platteau Managers work collaboratively to establish and support an inclusive and welcoming community, encourage student involvement in a diversity of artistic endeavors, and serve as a positive role model in the arts community. Managers must be approachable and display a genuine interest in the artistic goals of the Platteau student users. Managers are expected to be knowledgeable about arts equipment and supplies as well as campus and community resources.


There are 2 open positions. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Contribute to an inclusive and welcoming community in all interactions including online interactions.
  • Manage and post on Platteau social media accounts.
  • Develop large and small scale programming throughout the year
  • Coordinate art and equipment workshops
  • Hold 5 weekly office hours in the Platteau during agreed upon times 
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies and submit orders to a supervisor for purchase.
  • Clean and organize the Platteau space and studios on a weekly basis.
  • Manage sign-in and sign-out sheets and maintain Platteau use information.
  • Notify a supervisor about any work orders that need to be completed.
  • Complete assigned administrative tasks in a thorough and timely manner
  • Report information to Campus Safety and/or the Platt-Howard RA On-Call in the event of a policy violation or safety concern.

SCHEDULE

  • Work shifts available between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM, 7 days per week
  • Student must be able to work 4 - 10 hours per week

RATE OF PAY

$16.80 per hour

The Platteau Manager Position is eligible for Federal Work Study


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Currently enrolled at least part-time at Lewis & Clark College in the College of Arts & Sciences
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Personal interest in art, any medium
  • Ability to work independently
  • A friendly attitude
  • Experience serving in a customer service capacity, either paid or volunteer

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Past or current enrollment in art, music, dance, and/or theater classes at Lewis & Clark or in high school
  • One or more of the following:
    • Knowledge of ceramics including any of the following but not limited to: operation of potter’s wheel, operation of electric kiln, clay types, glaze types, tool usage
    • Knowledge of photography including any of the following but not limited to: dark room chemical preparation, analog camera operation, digital camera operation, film development, enlarger operation, lighting operation
    • Knowledge of sewing including any of the following but not limited to: sewing machine operation, serger operation, hand sewing, embroidery
    • Knowledge of printmaking including any of the following but not limited to: screen printing operations (screen maintenance, exposure unit operations, chemical usage, printing, curing) and woodcut/linocut printing
    • Knowledge of musical instruments including any of the following but not limited to: piano, drumset, electric guitar/bass, acoustic guitar, music performance, and sound equipment maintenance 
  • Event planning experience 
  • Experience using Google suite
  • Strong organizational skills

GREAT TO HAVE

  • Graphic design experience and knowledge of Canva and/or any other editing software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Social media experience and knowledge of Instagram and/or any other popular social media sites
  • Knowledge of and involvement with the Visual and Performing Arts Living Learning Community
