Job Description:

Product Manager, Data-Enterprise

Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it’s equally important you know that the company you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a variety of people, global locations, technologies, and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government, or military experience to a 3M career

This role requires a strategic thinker with deep understanding of enterprise data product management, the regulatory and compliance demands of Finance, HR, IT and Legal functions, and a systems-level view of data architecture. The ideal candidate will act as the strategic bridge between enterprise business functions, data engineering and AI enablement – shaping a globally scalable portfolio of data products measured through Outcome-Driven Metrics and aligned with enterprise governance, FinOps and AI risk frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Define the vision and strategic roadmap for Enterprise domain data products (Finance, HR, IT, Legal) in alignment with enterprise data strategy, platform capabilities and business value streams.
  • Establish consistent standards for data product management across enterprise domains, including data contracts, backlog prioritization and Outcome-Driven Metrics for value measurement.
  • Identify opportunities for technology-driven improvements and innovations within Finance, HR, IT operations and Legal functions – including AI/ML-ready data products and self-service analytics.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and Platform teams to ensure data products are scalable, secure, interoperable across domains, and discoverable through the enterprise data marketplace.
  • Translate enterprise priorities into clear, actionable domain product roadmaps that balance innovation, compliance, and technical sustainability – with particular attention to cross-domain dependencies and shared data assets.

Portfolio & Delivery Management

  • Oversee the enterprise data product portfolio: lifecycle management (creation, updates, maintenance, retirement), investment planning and roadmap execution for cross-domain and shared data assets.
  • Prioritize across domains based on business value, readiness, and capacity – using intake, ITOC and BRM processes; apply Outcome-Driven Metrics and cost attribution to guide strategic investment decisions.
  • Ensure product roadmaps integrate with the broader Data Platform architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold, Iceberg/S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Snowflake, Power BI) and support modularity, interoperability and reuse.
  • Define and track KPIs: adoption rate, data product usage, cost-to-serve, cycle time, ROI metrics and data contract compliance; apply FinOps principles for transparency across the enterprise portfolio.
  • Drive cross-domain collaboration and dependency management to maximize reuse, avoid duplication, and enable data products that serve multiple business units simultaneously.

Governance & Enablement

  • Embed governance, AI risk reviews, and data contract enforcement into the data product lifecycle – ensuring every product is certified for reuse through formal contracts with defined SLAs, quality expectations and usage rights.
  • Ensure adherence to data quality, metadata, lineage, and FinOps standards – with particular focus on sensitivity of HR and Legal data; implement data product observability for pipeline health monitoring.
  • Partner with Security, Risk and Compliance teams to ensure all products meet global regulatory requirements; design and maintain federated governance models balancing central policy with domain autonomy.
  • Advocate for product reusability, domain ownership, self-service enablement, and data product discoverability; collaborate with platform team to deliver self-service tools for domain teams.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with enterprise domain leaders across Finance, HR, IT and Legal functions and their respective IT counterparts – aligning priorities, co-defining data product requirements and validating ODMs.
  • Represent the enterprise data products portfolio at executive steering committees and enterprise planning sessions;
  • Communicate the business impact of data investments in measurable terms – connecting analytics outcomes to operational and financial KPIs; build business cases for data product investments.
  • Serve as an evangelist for data as a product – driving awareness, adoption, and data literacy across enterprise functions; lead change management initiatives for operating model transformation.

Your Skills and Expertise:

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources or Data Science (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Eight (8) years of experience in data product management, data strategy, or analytics leadership, with a focus on data-driven solutions for Finance, HR, IT, and/or Legal operations in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Proven experience leading teams of product owners, analysts, or engineers; demonstrated ability to manage a cross-domain data product portfolio through its full lifecycle including retirement decisions.
  • Deep understanding of data product management principles, domain ownership, data mesh concepts, data contracts, value stream mapping, and Outcome-Driven Metrics for measuring enterprise-wide business value.
  • Strong grasp of modern cloud data platforms and toolsets (AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, Glue, Lake Formation, Power BI, dbt) and DataOps/CI/CD practices for scalable delivery.
  • Familiarity with FinOps, AI Risk, Data Governance frameworks, and federated governance models; experience designing governance that balances central policy with domain autonomy.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategies into technical data solutions and measurable value delivery; experience with cost attribution, FinOps, and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Skilled communicator able to influence senior business and technical leaders in a matrixed global organization; proficiency in value storytelling, C-level presentations, and building business cases.
  • Experience in agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) with hands-on product delivery oversight; familiarity with data marketplace, data catalog tools, and self-service enablement patterns.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and analytically; experience with change management, operating model transformation, and driving data literacy programs.
