The Assistant Athletics Director, Fitness Center & Sports Performance position reports to the Associate Athletics Director, Fitness Center & Sports Performance and will assist with maximizing student-athletes' athletic performance while reducing the risk of injury. In addition, this position will implement scientifically-proven principles of strength and conditioning, while creating a positive, energetic, and encouraging training environment that is conducive to the overall development of student-athletes. This is an important role that requires extensive student and coach interaction, and the ability to confidently interact and engage with a diverse population.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Implement scientifically-proven principles of strength and conditioning, including ground-based, multi-joint, and multi-directional movement patterns. 

  • Design and implement suitable programs for Division III athletes.

  • Provide cover at the facility for general student population usage of the fitness center.

  • Schedule athletic teams' usage of the fitness center as required. 

  • Research new or additional equipment required by the fitness center to meet student-athlete goals.

  • Serve as SAAC advisor.

  • Provide site administration coverage for athletic events.

  • Distribute uniforms. 

  • Attend meetings, conduct board hearings, and serve on committees as required. 

  • Communicate as necessary with colleagues and coaching staff. 

  • Perform administrative work as necessary. 

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Physical Education required

  • 3-5 years of experience in designing and implementing sports performance programs with athletic populations including college, high school or youth, required

  • Certification in CPR and First Aid required

  • CSCS and/or CSCCa certification required

  • Exceptional attention to detail required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.  

  • Proficiency in understanding and demonstrating basic and advanced weightlifting exercises

  • Knowledge of the science related to yearly periodization of sports performance programs and functional training

  • Proficiency in using computer software and the ability to learn new software easily

  • Ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks

  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to engage well with a diverse population

  • This position is active in nature, continuous movement is required.

  • Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with students, medical professionals, coaches, co-workers, and supervisors is essential.

  • Repetitive movements, lifting of over 100 pounds, reaching, lifting, stooping, climbing and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding and read fine print will be expected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • This position works in an office and a fitness center environment 

  • Exposed to loud noise levels of weights dropping and loud music  

  • Exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions  

  • May occasionally be exposed to bodily fluids, moving mechanical parts, and vibration

Compensation: $58,850.00 - $72,150.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
