Hydrovac Operator – CDL A

Description

Cascade Process Controls is hiring an experienced and safety-focused Hydrovac Operator with a valid CDL Class A to join our HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) department in San Antonio, Texas.

The Hydrovac Operator will operate hydrovac equipment to safely excavate, daylight, and expose underground utilities in support of horizontal directional drilling and other underground construction activities. This position requires strong equipment-operating skills, attention to detail, a commitment to jobsite safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of an HDD crew.

• Operate hydrovac trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently.
• Perform hydro excavation and daylighting of existing underground utilities.
• Support HDD crews with potholing, utility exposure, bore support, and excavation activities.
• Safely operate vacuum systems, water pumps, hoses, and associated hydrovac equipment.
• Inspect equipment before and after each shift and report mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and keep the hydrovac truck clean and in good operating condition.
• Follow project plans, utility markings, jobsite procedures, and direction from the HDD Foreman or Superintendent.
• Maintain awareness of underground utilities and work safely around existing infrastructure.
• Assist with setup, cleanup, material handling, and other general HDD construction activities as needed.
• Complete required daily logs, inspection reports, load tickets, and other documentation.
• Drive company vehicles and equipment to and from jobsites while complying with DOT regulations.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Communicate effectively with the HDD crew, supervisors, customers, and other contractors on the jobsite.
• Be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to different jobsites as required.

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL required.
• Clean driving record and ability to meet company and DOT driving requirements.
• Previous hydrovac, vacuum excavation, underground utility, HDD, or similar construction experience preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment or hydrovac equipment preferred.
• Ability to safely operate and maneuver a hydrovac truck on active construction sites.
• Knowledge of underground utility locating and safe excavation practices is a plus.
• Ability to read and understand basic jobsite instructions, utility markings, and work plans.
• Strong commitment to safety and following established procedures.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
• Ability to lift, carry, pull, and maneuver hoses and equipment as required.
• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or overtime when project schedules require.

Preferred Experience

• Hydrovac/vacuum excavation experience
• HDD construction experience
• Utility construction experience
• Oil & gas, telecommunications, electrical, water, or pipeline construction experience
• Experience working around active underground utilities
• CDL Class A with tanker endorsement is a plus
• OSHA or other applicable construction safety training is a plus

Physical Requirements

This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:

• Work outdoors for extended periods.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work around heavy equipment.
• Handle heavy hoses and hydrovac equipment.
• Work safely around construction equipment, traffic, and underground utilities.
• Perform duties in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and other challenging weather conditions.
