Capital Medical Group is seeking a highly qualified, board-certified or board-eligible Thoracic Surgeon to provide comprehensive clinical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position is primarily focused on the evaluation, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and ongoing management of patients with thoracic conditions within an academic medical environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient thoracic surgical care.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients with diseases and conditions affecting the lungs, chest wall, mediastinum, esophagus, and other areas within the scope of thoracic surgery.
- Perform surgical procedures in accordance with established clinical standards, organizational policies, credentialing requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct outpatient consultations, preoperative evaluations, postoperative visits, and ongoing follow-up care.
- Manage hospitalized patients, including new consultations, postoperative care, daily rounds, discharges, and coordination of care transitions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, tumor boards, case reviews, and care-planning meetings, as appropriate.
- Coordinate patient care with referring physicians, primary care providers, medical and radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists.
- Communicate treatment plans, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements clearly to patients and their families.
- Maintain timely access to care and support efficient scheduling of consultations, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
Call Coverage
- Participate in call coverage as specified in the physician’s employment agreement.
- Respond promptly to inpatient consultations, urgent clinical matters, and other on-call responsibilities.
- Coordinate appropriate coverage and patient handoffs to promote continuity and safety of care.
- Comply with established escalation, communication, and transfer protocols.

Medical Education
- Participate in the education and clinical development of medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare trainees.
- Provide appropriate supervision, instruction, and clinical feedback consistent with the surgeon’s academic responsibilities.
- Support an educational environment that promotes professionalism, patient safety, evidence-based practice, and clinical excellence.
- Participate in selected academic conferences, case presentations, or educational activities, as assigned.
Clinical care will remain the primary focus of this position, with teaching and academic responsibilities comprising a smaller portion of the physician’s overall effort.
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Successful completion of an accredited residency and fellowship training program appropriate for the practice of thoracic surgery.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Thoracic Surgery through the applicable recognized certifying board.
- Current or eligible unrestricted medical license in the jurisdiction or jurisdictions in which services will be provided.
- Eligibility for appointment to the medical staff and for all required clinical privileges at affiliated hospitals and facilities.
- Current controlled-substance registrations and prescribing credentials, as applicable.
- Current Basic Life Support certification and any additional life-support certification required by the organization or affiliated hospital.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in inpatient and outpatient thoracic surgical care.
- Ability to satisfy all credentialing, privileging, background screening, health screening, and professional liability requirements.
- Ability to participate in call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as specified in the employment agreement.
- Ability to travel between assigned clinical locations, when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience practicing in an academic medical environment.
- Experience supervising or teaching medical students, residents, or fellows.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary thoracic oncology or complex surgical programs.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems, preferably Epic and Cerner.
- Demonstrated record of timely clinical documentation and accurate charge capture.
- Experience participating in quality improvement, clinical research, outcomes review, or program development.
