Overview

Job Summary

Sets up and maintains the Produce and Bulk Foods Departments according to company standards, including Produce displays, Bulk Foods bins and related machines. Ensures product quality, freshness and selection and consistently provides friendly, courteous customer service to internal and external customers. Performs other related work.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Welcomes, engages, serves and thanks customers while maintaining an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic and interactive service focused on taking care of the customer.
• Promptly addresses customer concerns, including replacing unsatisfactory products, expediting returns or refunds, helping customers locate merchandise throughout the store and escorting customers to requested items.
• Performs customer-service duties and uses suggestive-selling techniques when appropriate.
• Performs receiving duties, including verifying orders against invoices; reporting shortages and claims; breaking down loads; dating products; cutting cases; stacking, pricing and marking merchandise; and maintaining organized storage areas.
• Breaks down freight, moves product into inventory and operates forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and related equipment as authorized.
• Stocks Bulk Foods products in the correct barrels and dispensers by moving product with carts, opening cases safely and filling the appropriate locations.
• Maintains the coffee area by grinding and preparing coffee and stocking products and supplies.
• Loads, cleans and maintains Bulk Foods machines, including honey and peanut butter machines, and keeps surrounding areas clean and adequately supplied with containers.
• Maintains Produce freshness and quality through proper handling to minimize damage and spoilage; builds displays, rotates stock, removes outdated or spoiled products and ensures proper pricing and signing.
• Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of department work areas, storage areas, equipment and selling floors by sweeping, mopping, removing trash and completing other sanitation tasks.
• Maintains a safe and secure work environment.
• Performs all duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Ability to:

• Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Communicate effectively with customers and employees through hearing, speech and writing; receive requests, provide product assistance and perform customer-relations and suggestive-selling duties.
• Conduct visual inspections of products and displays and read and follow written materials, including guides, recipes and product labels.
• Perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and compute weights and measures.
• Learn proper product handling, preparation, seasonality and perishability, as well as product-safety, sanitation and department procedures.
• Operate related equipment safely and quickly with manual dexterity and effective hand-eye coordination while remaining alert to hazards involving equipment, tools and work aids.
• Reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects from floor level to overhead, including objects up to approximately 20–30 pounds frequently and 30–50 pounds occasionally, with Produce assignments requiring the handling of objects up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Push and pull loaded hand trucks, carts and pallet jacks containing substantial product weight.
• Stand, walk and move rapidly for extended periods and bend, stoop, twist, turn and climb ladders frequently.
• Work with hands exposed to ice, moisture, fruits, vegetables and related food products.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Wear hats, hairnets, gloves and other personal protective equipment as required.
• Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Food Handler certification, as required by state law.

Machines and Equipment Operated:

• Department tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, wrappers, scales, Bulk Foods dispensers and machines, garbage disposals, trash compactors, cardboard balers and ladders.
• Material-handling equipment, including carts, hand trucks, pallet jacks and forklifts, as authorized.
• For minors, work hours and the machines and equipment operated may differ in accordance with applicable law and company policy.

Pay Range

USD $17.38 - USD $28.60 /Hr.
