Description
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Provides day-to-day leadership, direction, and oversight to Bridge Maintenance Workers and Building Maintenance Mechanics responsible for maintaining facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment at all four international bridges.
- Coordinates, assigns, monitors, and participates in building, grounds, cleaning, and general maintenance activities; establishes work priorities and ensures assignments are completed safely, efficiently, and timely.
- Receives and reviews work orders, assigns work to appropriate employees, monitors progress, and follows up to ensure work is completed properly and in a timely manner.
- Instructs and trains employees on proper maintenance methods, procedures, equipment operation, and safety practices; monitors work performance and reports personnel concerns to the supervisor.
- Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established quality, safety, cleanliness, and maintenance standards.
- Conducts routine inspections of facilities, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, vandalism, damage, and other deficiencies; reports and addresses issues as appropriate.
- Coordinates and participates in preventive maintenance activities to keep facilities, grounds, and equipment safe and operational.
- Ensures compliance with safety policies and proper use of PPE, tools, vehicles, machinery, and equipment; reports accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, and property damage.
- Coordinates transportation of crews, tools, equipment, and materials to designated work locations and ensures resources are available for assigned work and special projects.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies; ensures equipment checked out by crew members is properly accounted for, maintained, secured, and returned.
- Monitors material and supply levels and requests or obtains vendor quotes for supplies, materials, equipment, and services as needed.
- Request quotes from vendors on supplies needed on various projects and coordinates with vendors and contractors, as directed, regarding maintenance, repairs, deliveries, and special projects.
- Ensures proper collection and disposal of trash and debris and oversees cleaning, restroom maintenance, grass cutting, landscaping, and other grounds maintenance activities as needed.
- Responds to emergency and urgent maintenance situations, including vandalism, facility damage, equipment failures, severe weather conditions, and safety hazards.
- Prepares and maintains accurate daily reports and records regarding work orders, repairs, inspections, materials, equipment, and maintenance activities performed by the crew.
- Communicates with the supervisor regarding work priorities, staffing needs, equipment requirements, safety concerns, facility deficiencies, and outstanding maintenance issues.
- Performs hands-on maintenance and repair work as needed, particularly during emergencies, high-priority assignments, or special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures

- At least three (3) years of experience in a progressively responsible position performing grounds and facility maintenance work.
Foreign Education:
- Applicants who have completed education outside of the United States must submit a foreign credential evaluation completed by a professional credential evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). The evaluation must verify the U.S. equivalency of the degree and identify the comparable U.S. degree level. Applicants are responsible for obtaining and submitting the required evaluation documentation.

Required Licenses or Certifications- Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Certification preferred in HVAC, electrical and/or plumbing. Maintenance Crew Lender must obtain HVAC certification within twelve (12) months of employment.
As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
