A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
• Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
• Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
• Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
• May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
• Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
• Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
• Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Manufacturing Sustaining

• Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing operations.
• Lead investigation and resolution of complex production, quality, and process issues.
• Drive root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
• Maintain and improve manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.
• Support engineering changes, material changes, process improvements, and product lifecycle activities.
• Ensure compliance with quality system requirements and applicable regulatory standards.

Project Leadership

• Lead high-impact, cross-functional projects from concept through implementation.
• Develop project plans, timelines, risk assessments, and resource requirements.
• Coordinate activities across Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, R&D, Regulatory, and external partners.
• Proactively manage project risks, priorities, and deliverables to ensure successful execution.
• Drive initiatives that improve productivity, capacity, efficiency, and business performance.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings, waste reduction, and process optimization.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve operational performance.
• Analyze manufacturing data and performance metrics to support informed decision-making.
• Lead and support process validation and qualification activities as required.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as a subject matter expert for manufacturing processes, systems, products, and equipment.
• Provide coaching, technical guidance, and mentorship to engineering and operations teams.
• Drive adoption of best practices and engineering standards.
• Support implementation and optimization of manufacturing systems and digital solutions.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Autonomy: Seasoned individual contributor. Works independently under limited supervision to determine and develop approach to solutions. Coaches and reviews the work of lower level specialists; may manage projects / processes.

Organizational Impact: May be responsible for entire projects or processes within job area. Contributes to the completion of work group objectives, through building relationships and consensus to reach agreements on assignments.

Innovation and Complexity: Problems and issues faced are difficult, and may require understanding of multiple issues, job areas or specialties. Makes improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of the job area. Analysis provided is in-depth in nature and often provides recommendations on process improvements.

Communication and Influence: Communicates with senior internal and external customers and vendors. Exchange information of facts, statuses, ideas and issues to achieve objective, and influence decision-making.

Leadership and Talent Management: May provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area. May manage projects, requiring delegation of work and review of others' work product.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor's degree

5+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Sustaining Engineering, or a related field within a regulated manufacturing environment (medical devices, life sciences, aerospace, automotive, electronics, etc.).

Demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects from initiation through implementation.

Experience investigating complex manufacturing, quality, and process issues using structured problem-solving methodologies.

Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA, and continuous improvement programs.

Experience with process validation, qualification activities, and engineering change management.

Strong background working with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and regulatory requirements.

Experience analyzing production data, KPIs, and manufacturing metrics to drive operational decisions.
