Associate Director, Safety

Atwell is seeking an Associate Director, Safety to help lead and strengthen our field safety organization as our business continues to grow across the country.

This is a leadership opportunity for a safety professional who has built a strong foundation in the field and is ready to take the next step in leading people, programs, and strategy across a geographically dispersed organization. You’ll oversee Atwell's Regional Safety Managers, help create consistency and accountability across our safety program, and serve as an important connection between our field teams and company leadership.

We're particularly interested in candidates who understand the safety challenges associated with utilities, electric transmission and distribution, generation, infrastructure, or utility construction and who have supported operations across multiple locations and states.

This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the United States, with significant travel required.

What You'll Do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of four Regional Safety Managers located throughout the United States.
• Create consistency and accountability across regional safety programs, expectations, reporting, and execution.
• Partner with Atwell's operational and business leaders to integrate safety into project planning and field operations.
• Help further develop Atwell's existing safety strategy and identify opportunities to strengthen programs and processes.
• Maintain direct safety oversight for a smaller geographic region while primarily focusing on leadership and alignment of the Regional Safety Manager team.
• Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analyses, corrective actions, and follow-through led by Regional Safety Managers.
• Review safety performance, observations, near misses, incidents, and leading and lagging indicators to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Support risk assessments, job hazard analyses, audits, inspections, and other proactive safety initiatives.
• Help develop and communicate safety training, expectations, policies, and programs across the organization.
• Maintain knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Visit field operations and Regional Safety Managers throughout the country to maintain a strong connection with our teams and understand field conditions firsthand.
• Communicate safety performance, priorities, risks, and opportunities effectively to field employees, project teams, and company leadership.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field required; a safety-focused degree is strongly preferred.
• 5–10 years of progressive safety experience, with 7–10 years preferred.
• Previous safety leadership experience, ideally at the manager, senior manager, or comparable level.
• Experience supporting multiple sites across more than one state.
• Meaningful hands-on field safety experience.
• Experience within utilities, electric transmission and distribution, power generation, utility construction, infrastructure construction, or a closely related environment strongly preferred.
• Experience leading, coaching, or providing oversight to other safety professionals.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and safety compliance practices.
• Experience with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
• Experience working with safety performance metrics and leading and lagging indicators preferred.
• Professional safety certification such as CSP, ASP, or CHST strongly preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively across different audiences, from field employees and project teams to senior company leadership.
• Strong leadership, accountability, organization, and communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–75%, including frequent overnight travel.

What Success Looks Like

The right person will bring structure, consistency, and leadership to Atwell's regional safety organization. You'll help ensure Regional Safety Managers have clear expectations, follow through on their responsibilities, communicate effectively with business leaders, and operate as a coordinated national team.

You'll bring the field credibility to connect with employees on a job site while also being comfortable communicating safety priorities, performance, and risk with company leadership. This role is an opportunity to help strengthen an established safety program while developing the people and processes that support Atwell's continued growth.

Compensation & Travel

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $94,000–$138,000 annually, with final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.

This position is remote within the United States and requires approximately 50–75% travel. Travel will include both driving within an assigned region and air travel to support Regional Safety Managers and Atwell operations nationwide. Frequent overnight travel should be expected.

A company vehicle is provided, and approved business travel expenses are covered through a company credit card.
