Reports To: Program Coordinator

Purpose

The Expanded Learning Program (EXLP) Lead Program Instructor delivers high-quality expanded learning experiences that support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of K–12 youth. Grounded in BACR’s values of Compassion, Curiosity, Humility, Integrity, and Joy, this role creates safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, respected, and connected.

Lead Program Instructors serve as instructional and program leaders at the site level. In addition to facilitating direct services for youth, they serve as an instructional peer leader; model high-quality practices; mentor and guide Program Instructors in program quality, instruction, youth engagement, and classroom management; support program quality and CQI efforts; and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture. In addition, Lead Program Instructors support daily site operations, data entry, organization, supplies, routines, and implementation of program needs.

  • Pay rate: $25- $26 per hour, based on regional grant funding and experience

  • Hours negotiated upon hiring (25–30 hours per week, depending on location and need)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Associate degree or higher, or 48 college units, or passage of the Instructional Aide Exam.

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB clearance.

  • Ability to work during after-school hours and commit through the academic school year (hire date through mid-June).

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with K–12 youth in educational, enrichment, recreational, or community-based settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently supervise and engage groups of up to 22 students.

  • Experience planning and facilitating academic, enrichment, recreation, or youth development activities.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with youth from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Ability to complete Mandated Reporter certification and other required trainings.

  • Basic proficiency with email, Google Drive, and other program management platforms.

Preferred

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting staff in youth-serving environments.

  • Experience leading groups, projects, events, or program initiatives.

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Chinese, or other languages).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and move throughout the program space for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to actively supervise and accompany students during indoor and outdoor activities.

  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
