Description
As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at Nasdaq, you will lead the modernization of the mission-critical platforms that power the IPO journey and the full lifecycle of public companies listed on Nasdaq. Reporting to the AVP of Software Engineering, you will serve as a transformation leader and player-coach — driving strategy, shaping architecture, and delivering meaningful change through technical credibility and hands-on execution.
You'll thrive in this role if you bring executive presence alongside deep engineering instincts, and if you're energized by the opportunity to reimagine how world-class financial market infrastructure is built, operated, and evolved.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the technology modernization strategy for Nasdaq's Listings platforms, transforming legacy systems into cloud-native, scalable, and resilient solutions that meet the demands of global capital markets.
- Establish and drive an enterprise data strategy, including modernization of data pipelines, data platforms, and large-scale data engineering capabilities that unlock new business value.
- Champion the adoption of AI-first engineering practices — including agent-assisted development, intelligent automation, and AI-enabled operational workflows — to elevate how the team builds and delivers software.
- Build and embed modern engineering practices across cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, observability, and operational excellence, creating a culture of engineering discipline and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with product, architecture, application modernization, and operations leaders to align technical direction with business outcomes and organizational priorities.
- Lead as a hands-on change agent — setting the standard through action, earning trust through technical credibility, and inspiring a high-performing team of engineers to deliver at scale.
Required Qualifications
- Leadership experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of modernizing complex enterprise platforms in regulated or mission-critical environments.
- Deep expertise in AWS cloud architecture and infrastructure modernization, including hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated success designing and delivering modern data platforms, large-scale data pipelines, and data engineering solutions at enterprise scale.
- Experience with enterprise-scale relational databases, including Oracle, and proven ability to drive database modernization initiatives.
- Strong background in DevSecOps, platform engineering, observability platforms, monitoring, logging, and operational reliability practices.
- Ability to influence across organizational boundaries, lead through ambiguity, and deliver measurable outcomes in complex, matrixed environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Databricks or comparable modern data and AI platforms.
- Background in capital markets, fintech, or similarly regulated technology environments.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering cultures that embrace innovation, calculated risk-taking, and continuous learning.
This position will be located in Atlanta, GA and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 3 days a week in-office, subject to change, providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
