The Development Manager will lead and mentor a team of developers responsible for unique, proprietary applications that support a high-touch segment of our client base. This role offers a strategic opportunity to modernize our application portfolio by converting legacy systems to contemporary technologies while maintaining service excellence for internal customers.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and motivated Software Development Manager with strong leadership credentials, hands-on expertise in designing and developing software applications using Microsoft technologies, and proven success managing application modernization initiatives.
Work Environment: Hybrid role requiring a minimum of three (3) days per week in the local office.
What You'll Do
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage and mentor a team of developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, code quality, and operational efficiency
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development for direct reports
- Establish and communicate clear expectations, goals, and performance metrics for the team
Application Portfolio Management
- Own and maintain a strong understanding of all assigned application functions, workflows, system integrations, and technical dependencies
- Assess the existing application inventory to identify modernization opportunities and prioritize legacy system conversions
- Develop and execute roadmaps for converting legacy applications to modern Microsoft technologies (.NET, Azure, etc.)
- Ensure thorough testing, documentation, and knowledge transfer during application transitions to minimize disruption
Development & Integration
- Design and implement API integrations to enhance application functionality, improve system connectivity, and streamline workflows
- Leverage pre-approved AI-assisted development tools to enhance code quality, accelerate development cycles, and improve problem-solving
- Ensure the team adheres to established SDLC methodologies and coding standards throughout all development phases
Service & Support Management
- Ensure the team meets service level agreements (SLAs) for assigned support requests from internal customers, including support tickets and change requests
- Oversee the status and prioritization of requests in the issue-tracking system
- Proactively identify and escalate potential roadblocks, technical challenges, and resource constraints to department leadership
- Anticipate and assess downstream impacts of process or system changes on dependent applications and stakeholders
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with other teams and departments to address issues, gaps, and requirements impacting application functionality and business objectives
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations, and communicate technical constraints
- Partner with third-party vendors and external teams as needed to support integration and modernization efforts
- Attend and/or lead relevant meetings and conference calls to ensure alignment and transparency
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated expertise in Microsoft technologies including .NET, C#, VB.NET, SQL Server, Azure, Power BI, and Power Apps
- At least 3 years of experience in a leadership or senior technical role managing enterprise software development teams
- Proven experience managing application modernization or legacy system conversion projects
- Strong experience with API design, integrations, and system connectivity concepts
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to enhance productivity and code quality
- Deep understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors
- Ability to anticipate, assess, and communicate downstream impacts of technical decisions and system changes
- Strong organizational, time management, and project prioritization skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
- Flexibility to work at least half of a scheduled shift to coincide with US business hours (Central time zone)
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience creating and deploying Power BI dashboards and Power Apps solutions
- 5+ years of technical experience within the Travel Industry
- Experience with issue-tracking and project management tools (e.g., Jira, FreshService, Azure DevOps)
- Experience with Sabre GDS or similar global distribution systems (e.g., TravelPort, Amadeus)
- Experience with cloud migration strategies and Azure infrastructure
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) or microservices architecture
- Experience mentoring and developing junior developers into senior technical roles
