Description

Field Operations Director 

Mullins Mechanical is a leader in industrial and large commercial mechanical, plumbing, HVAC construction projects. Our projects are often in the industrial and manufacturing environments, such as manufacturing facilities, automotive plants, chemical plants, distribution centers, warehouses, and other large commercial facilities.  We are a self-performing specialty contractor specializing in design-build applications, HVAC systems, plumbing, process piping systems, boiler and chiller systems, equipment installation and rigging, plant relocation and maintenance, and metal fabrication.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain and strengthen customer relationships, serving as a key field representative and ensuring alignment with client expectations. 
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and materials for potential conflicts, availability, and efficiency improvements. 
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and safety. 
  • Participate in project handoff meetings, providing input on scope, schedule, subcontractors, manpower, and materials. 
  • Review all contract documents, drawings, and schedules to prepare for field execution. 
  • Ensure alignment of subcontractors, equipment, and materials before project mobilization. 
  • Monitor and analyze key project documentation, including lookaheads, daily reports, site inspections, schedules, and KPIs. 
  • Attend monthly leadership reviews to address budget adjustments and lessons learned. 
  • Host and actively participate in monthly PX-FOD coordination meetings, ensuring alignment between field operations and project leadership. 
  • Collaborate closely with Project Executives to align field execution with management strategies, goals, and project requirements. 
  • Track progress, identify potential delays, and implement mitigation strategies.

  • Lead weekly manpower planning with other FODs, coordinate staffing across jobs, and collaborate with recruiting to meet hiring needs. 
  • Conduct FOD audits to verify compliance, performance, safety, and quality across projects. 
  • Oversee timely delivery, storage, calibration, and maintenance of owned and rented equipment; resolve issues that may impact field operations. 
  • Conduct routine site visits to enforce Mullins’ safety policies, site-specific plans, and OSHA requirements. 
  • Lead weekly safety toolbox talks, review Job Safety Analyses (MSAs), and oversee incident reporting. 
  • Perform regular quality audits to ensure installations meet company standards and collaborate with teams to implement corrective actions. 
  • Ensure closeout packages are complete, accurate, and transitioned effectively to warranty teams. 
  • Participate in lessons-learned sessions to improve future project planning and execution. 
  • Lead employee development by supporting, training, and mentorship of superintendents, project managers, and field leaders. 
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and collaboration across all levels of field operations. 
  • Oversee HR-related field processes, including time tracking, attendance, and proper use of cost codes. 
  • Drive performance to meet or exceed company KPIs in safety, quality, schedule, and productivity. 
  • Collaborate with estimating teams during bid processes, providing technical guidance. 
  • Oversee the management of jobsite tools and equipment (owned and rented), including inspection logs, maintenance schedules, and calibration reports. 
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. 

Qualifications: 

  • Proven track record as a Senior Superintendent or equivalent leader in a self-performed construction trade. 
  • Extensive knowledge of construction operations, processes, safety, and quality standards. 
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Procore, Bluebeam, Revit, and Microsoft Project. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire diverse project teams. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders at all levels. 
  • OSHA 30 certification required. 

 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Work at heights — including ladders, scaffolds, lifts, platforms, mezzanines, and elevated structures up to and exceeding 100 feet. 
  • Work around moving equipment — such as forklifts, cranes, aerial lifts, skid steers, and other heavy machinery. 
  • Standing and walking for extended periods  
  • Perform physically demanding tasks — including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching. 
  • Maintain situational awareness in dynamic, noisy, and highhazard environments. 
  • Use required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, and respiratory protection when applicable. 
  • Work in confined or restricted spaces as required by project scope. 
  • Operate or use hand and power tools safely and effectively. 
  • Follow safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and hazardcontrol measures. 
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and equipment operators using verbal instructions, radios, and hand signals. 

 Physical Demands: 

  • Lifting and carrying materials and equipment up to 50 lbs frequently 
  • Working on uneven terrain including dirt, gravel, mud, rebar mats, and unfinished surfaces. 
  • Climbing ladders and stairs repeatedly throughout the workday. 
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching to perform installation, repair, or inspection tasks. 
  • Repetitive motions including gripping, twisting, hammering, and tool operation. 
  • Full use of hands, arms, legs, and balance to safely navigate job sites and perform tasks. 
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to identify hazards, read instructions, and communicate in highnoise environments. 

 Environmental Conditions: 

  • Yearround outdoor environments including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. 
  • Industrial indoor environments such as data centers, manufacturing floors, mechanical rooms, and utility spaces. 
  • Highnoise areas requiring hearing protection. 
  • Dusty, dirty, or fumeproducing environments depending on project scope. 
  • Tight or congested workspaces with multiple trades working simultaneously. 
  • Varying lighting conditions including lowlight or tasklightonly areas. 

 Cognitive & SafetyCritical Requirements 

  • Maintain alertness and awareness for long periods. 
  • Recognize and avoid hazards including fall hazards, electrical hazards, pinch points, and equipment movement. 
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. 
  • Make quick, safe decisions in changing conditions. 
  • Work independently or as part of a team depending on task needs.
