JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Accountant III-Revenue, Receivables & Debt Supervisor, performs professional accounting work specializing in revenue accounting, receivable accounting, property tax accounting, miscellaneous billings, and revenue reconciliation activities. Responsible for maintaining assigned revenue and receivable general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries and reconciliations, analyzing revenue activity, preparing audit workpapers, and ensuring the accurate recording and reconciliation of revenue transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidance, and City policies.
  • Maintains assigned revenue and receivable general ledger accounts and prepares monthly reconciliations. 
  • Prepares and posts journal entries related to revenues, receivables, deferred revenues, collections, property taxes, miscellaneous billings, and other assigned accounting transactions. 
  • Performs revenue accounting for property taxes, miscellaneous billings, business licenses, assessments, and other City revenues. 
  • Reconciles subsidiary records and supporting systems to the general ledger and researches discrepancies and variances. 
  • Assists with monthly and annual revenue reconciliations for all assigned revenue sources. 
  • Reviews revenue activity for completeness and accuracy and researches unusual transactions. 
  • Prepares assigned audit workpapers, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Assists with month end and year end closing activities by preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules 
  • Assists in documenting accounting procedures and developing cross-training materials to promote consistency and business continuity. 
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives related to revenue accounting, receivables, and financial systems.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year’s experience in a related field of work. 
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of financial accounting and specialized accounting requirements for government entities.
  • Knowledge of governmental revenue accounting principles
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable accounting and reconciliation techniques
  • Knowledge of property tax accounting and miscellaneous billing processes.
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting model.
  • Knowledge of internal financial controls.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of computerized financial software.
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel at an advanced level.
  • Skill in analyzing complex financial problems and identifying solutions.
  • Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
  • Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
  • Skill in setting priorities for competing projects with established deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
