Description
Job Summary: The Driver supports operations by transporting equipment, materials, and supplies between warehouses, job sites, and vendor locations. This role ensures the timely, safe, and accurate delivery of materials to support field crews and project schedules, while maintaining compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Pick-up and deliver equipment using the Company box truck or other approved means of transportation
• Load, transport, and unload materials and equipment in a safe manner
• Receive and verify the accuracy of incoming shipments
• Record and update logbook entries in accordance with applicable DOT regulations
• Maintain a safe workplace by adhering to established safety procedures, properly using equipment, and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions
• Identify and report required vehicle maintenance needs or mechanical issues to ensure safe operating conditions
• Pull and distribute materials, tools, and/or other stock items for scheduled deliveries
• Organize and place materials on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences such as size, type, style, color, or product code
• Verify and document all material transfers to ensure alignment with project records and maintain delivery confirmations for completed shipments
• Support warehouse inventory control by conducting physical counts and reporting discrepancies
• Maintain a clean work environment in the warehouse and Company vehicle
• Adhere to Company and industry safety practices, including proper vehicle operation, load securement, and material-handling procedures
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
Experience:
• One to two years of experience in warehouse operations and commercial driving
• Forklift certification preferred
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
• Experience in the telecommunications, construction, or utility services industries preferred
Technical Skills:
• Ability to utilize a smart phone and Global Positioning System (GPS)
• Basic knowledge of commercial vehicle operation, including load securement, vehicle inspection, and compliance with DOT regulation
• Familiarity with telecommunications or electrical materials, such as coax or fiber cable, antennas, connectors, and grounding equipment preferred
Soft Skills:
• Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions
• Attention to detail to ensure accurate and timely completion of responsibilities
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a member of various teams
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with warehouse staff, field crews, vendors, and supervisors regarding deliveries, inventory, and issues
• Ability to prioritize tasks and routes effectively to ensure timely deliveries
• Adaptability and flexibility to adjust to changing priorities, schedules, and unforeseen circumstances
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat, and frequently lift up to 100 pounds
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods on varied surfaces in a warehouse environment
• Ability to operate or learn to operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, dollies, hand trucks, or forklifts
• Ability to work in various warehouse settings with moderate to loud noise levels
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, including hot, cold, and outdoor loading areas (if applicable)
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety guidelines
• May be required to work irregular or extended hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on business needs
