As an Mechanical or Digital Electronics/Firmware Technician in Intelligence,
Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), you will have the opportunity to work within
engineering teams focused on the development and delivery of products and
programmes to a wide variety of customers in the Military domain. This could include:
• The development of our next generation electronic warfare (EW) systems
• The development of our next generation aircraft surveillance systems
• Supporting one of the several studies we are undertaking to shape the future of
Surveillance systems
The role takes active hands-on responsibilities for delivery of a bite sized engineering
development project solution. It will also provide opportunities to work with engineers
and develop skills in Mechanical, Digital Electronics/Firmware and/or Electrical
engineering.

Areas of expected development
• Planning/ Documenting/ recording of the test / product equipment and
understanding different levels of design maturity.
• Understanding and practices good safety management of designs and our site.
• Knows how to record and resolve behavioural faults and failures
• Is a team player with a “can-do” attitude that performs effectively in a multi-
disciplinary team environment and promotes the values of inclusiveness and
diversity
• Experience of working within a development environment, maintaining compliance
to relevant design standards
• Communications skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to present and
explain technical and complex problems, tailored appropriately for the audience

An understanding of Hardware Engineering and Hardware Engineering Processes
and Practices, including knowledge of Hardware Product Lifecycles
• Developing standard PC skills MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
• Understands requirements and traceability of evidence
• Leadership skills following the Leadership@Thales Model
• The reporting of the progress of engineering activities to stakeholders (Inc.
establishing appropriate metrics with forecasts)
Reporting & Key Stakeholders
• Functionally accountable to the Mechanical Discipline Team Manager with the support of
an Future Talent Development Manager
• Operational reporting responsibilities to the project Hardware Engineering Manager or
Discipline Team Manager (for discipline improvement tasks)
