Senior Sustaining Engineer

About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established, global medical device manufacturer producing critical technologies used in hospitals worldwide. As part of their ongoing engineering team, they're looking for a Senior Sustaining Engineer to take ownership of complex, ongoing product and process challenges across an established product line.

The Role
This is a senior-level engineering role suited to someone comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy. You'll lead elements of medium-to-large projects, working independently while mentoring junior engineers along the way.
Day to day, you'll:
- Take the lead on engineering activities of significant scope and complexity, spanning components, systems and processes tied to medium or large projects
- Work independently, using sound judgement to troubleshoot product-related issues and resolve advanced technical challenges
- Oversee design testing and ensure all technical work meets required specifications
- Prepare and maintain thorough documentation to support engineering activities, including CAD and design work where needed
- Contribute to the development of corrective actions and propose viable alternatives
- Ensure full adherence to internal procedures and relevant regulatory, health, safety and environmental standards
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers, helping build their skills and confidence
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed, supporting the wider engineering function
What We're Looking For
- A university degree in engineering or a related scientific/technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Around 5–8 years' relevant experience (or 3–6 years with an advanced degree)
- Deep technical expertise in your engineering discipline, with good working knowledge of adjacent functions such as manufacturing and quality
- A track record of leading engineers, either directly or as part of a project team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to interpret complex technical documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- A collaborative mindset, equally effective working independently or within a team
