JB077 - Live-in Family Assistant - NYC/Southampton, NY

Overview

A warm and caring mother is seeking an experienced, emotionally mature Family Assistant to join her household on a live-in basis. The family has one daughter, age 6, who is gifted and emotionally attuned. The parenting philosophy is attachment based with a Montessori and Waldorf influenced approach. The client is looking for a true teammate who can be flexible with their schedule and assist in all household support.

The family has deep, long-standing relationships with household staff and views this as a long-term or even lifetime position.

 

The family is relocating within the Hamptons imminently; they are currently based in Southamptonand the daughter attends school in the north fork. They will spend some weekends in their New York City apartment. Travel, especially during winter months, is anticipated.

Responsibilities

• Direct childcare and emotional support for a 6-year-old • Driving the child to and from school and activities • Cooking for the family including portable breakfasts, packed school lunches, simple dinners and meal planning /coordinating to order food; understands or willing to learn and become aligned with outlook on healthy nutritional food choices • Household organization and inventory management including tidying and light housework, daily organization of belongings, packing and emptying the car, cleaning and organizing kitchen and living areas for daily maintenance • Scheduling, errands, and general personal assistance to support the client • Creative engagement with the child through play, bath time, bedtime, and meaningful daily routines • deep awareness of child's emotional and developmental needs ; communication with mother about how to better see, support and help with child development • Supporting mornings, afternoons, and some evenings, with every other weekend on; flexibility with scheduling and change of plans sometimes at the last minute. e

Qualifications

• Emotionally mature, professional boundaries, self-aware, energetically aware • Warm, fun, and personable with the ability to be a welcome companion /friend to the child while maintaining professionalism • Comfortable in emotionally expressive environments • Creative and playful, with a genuine love of meaningful engagement with and development of children • A self-starter who can observe what needs to be done and build structure independently ; proactive and takes initiative • Emotionally steady and grounded, comfortable with adventure, spontaneity and last-minute changes • loving; Able to bring warmth, imagination, and a sense of adventure to time with the child• Able to read a room and adjust; attuned to energies and dynamicsT• Trustworthy transparent communicative

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a comparable nanny or family assistant role • Clean driving record required; use of family vehicle provided • Passport eligible• Comfortable with Hamptons winters, travel and potential relocation • Strong verifiable references essential; zero tolerance for dishonesty or integrity concerns • Valid US work authorization

Salary and Benefits

• Base salary of $115,000 per year as a starting point, with room to negotiate based on qualifications and fit • Performance bonus at year end • Paid Time Off partially at discretion and partially aligned with family holidays • Monthly health insurance stipend in lieu of employer-sponsored insurance • frequent use of family vehicle • Monthly Jitney/trainer stipend for city access on off days; potential for occasional use of family NYC apartment (when or if the timing aligns)
