Job Responsibilities
The position manages all customer service aspects, price adjustments, and key performance indicators (KPIs) of long-term contracts which directly impact the overall financial performance of the division. This is a customer-facing position which requires direct interaction with 2 of the largest revenue customers of the RPS Division. Job responsibilities will involve direct dialog with the VP of the business unit.
- Oversee account management activities and meet face to face with railroad personnel (both engineering and purchasing) to resolve issues and evaluate opportunities
- Maintain relationships with Class I railroad clients to drive sales growth and customer satisfaction
- Identify, develop, and execute out-of-contract, spot-market, and special-project sales opportunities to drive incremental revenue and EBITDA growth
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including product management and operations, to ensure customer needs are met, and solutions are implemented effectively
- Track and manage all key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Trace, bill and assist in fleet management to drive production planning and manage inventory levels
- Purchase order management
- Resolve any invoice or accounts payable issues in a timely manner to minimize any impact to cash flow
- Recognize and notify both Koppers and railroads of potential cost savings opportunities
- Manage railcar status, i.e., trace reporting
- Notify respective personnel (procurement, engineering, treating plants) of any potential impacts to production based on railcar supply and inventory levels
- Manage the railroads switch tie priorities and orders and coordinate with roadway material yard
- Assist with recurring production meetings between railroads and Koppers Plants
- Travel required, as needed, to perform track inspections with railroad personnel, perform bi-annual supplier reviews and host railroad personnel at Koppers plants
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, forestry or related field
- 5 years of experience in operations, logistics, or marketing/sales
- Ability to make decisions, plan and analyze information
- Strong organization and leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft word, MS-DOS, Excel and Outlook
- Comprehension of Oracle and SAP operating systems a plus
- Experience in maintaining and fostering existing relationships and building new partnerships
- Experience in the rail transportation industry is strongly preferred
- Strong financial acumen
- Prior experience dealing with plant operations and planning preferred.
- Demonstrated experience training and managing direct reports and collaborating effectively in a team environment
