As a Pulmonary Function Technologist, you'll play an essential role in helping physicians evaluate, diagnose, and manage respiratory conditions through comprehensive pulmonary function testing.

 

Working under the direction of the Pulmonary Function Clinical Coordinator, you will perform a variety of pulmonary diagnostic procedures, support quality assurance initiatives, and contribute to a patient-centered environment dedicated to clinical excellence. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with pulmonologists and multidisciplinary care teams while utilizing advanced pulmonary testing technologies.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, airway resistance, thoracic gas volume, respiratory muscle strength, and arterial puncture procedures.
• Conduct routine exercise studies such as oxygen titration and six-minute walk testing.
• Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot pulmonary function laboratory equipment according to established procedures.
• Evaluate test validity, collect clinical information, and ensure accurate patient assessments.
• Perform arterial blood gas collection and analysis and participate in quality control and proficiency testing activities.
• Educate and prepare patients for testing procedures to ensure a positive patient experience.
• Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to support diagnostic interpretation and effective patient care planning.
• Assist with scheduling, supply management, and coordination of patient services as needed.

This is a full-time position with a Mon-Fri schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the expectation that staff may be asked to come in earlier if the needs of the unit change.

While the position is based in the Adult PFT Lab, the staff will also be required to float to the Pediatric PFT Lab as needed to support patient flow in the event of staffing needs.

 

 Required Criteria

• Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Must be licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by The University of the State of New York, Education Department.
• One year experience in spirometry testing, lung volume testing, diffusion capacity testing and arterial blood sampling and analysis.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• Working familiarity with a computer and keyboard.
• Must be able to work well with patients, physicians and other clinicians. Must be able to work independently at a high level of intensity.

Salary Range:

$59.85-$69.29/Hourly
