Managing Director of Global Genetic Innovation- Cobb

The Managing Director of Global Genetic Innovation will lead our efforts to identify and champion best practices that, if adopted, will accelerate genetic progress by maximizing product potential for Cobb and its customers. The role will develop and deploy new platforms integrating innovative practices in genetics, including gene therapies and gene editing accelerated with continually evolving AI tools. The position is responsible for the leadership and continuous development of Cobb’s trait research worldwide as an integrated unit within our company's research and development team. In tight alignment with the R&D, Engagement, and regional teams the role is responsible for the strategic orientation and operational implementation of the global gene discovery activities in alignment with the strategic goals of Cobb with a focus on explicit traits, especially disease resistance and/or tolerance. This position is responsible for ensuring that Cobb meets the objectives for explicit trait development and for developing new trait products or improving existing products and generates a solid and defendable IP position for the assigned area and finds strategic scientific alliances to help execute upon value creation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Defining the objectives and relevant level of research investment for specific trait development programs to ensure the right focus, in partnership with the business units and breeding functions
• Introducing differentiating science and regulatory practices into our company
• Leading the decision-making process for which concept and “trait category” should be applied for a specific trait development program based on the resources available
• Ensuring that research activities and interfaces across R&D are structured in a way to ensure the trait development objectives are met, with sufficient visibility and transparency to the business on research activities and programs
• Finding opportunities for leveraging cross-enterprise and cross-functional synergies to ensure the maximum activity and progress within the available resource capacity
• Applying foresight to promote research activities on potential high-impact opportunities that challenge the status quo, while ensuring the delivery of core objectives

Requirements:
Education / Certifications: Ph.D. or equivalent certification in biosciences or a closely related field
Experience: 20+ years of proven experience introducing new genetic platforms
Communication Skills: Strong to expert communicator with C-suite capabilities

Special Skills:
•Advanced analytical skills and ability to challenge diverse scientific concepts based on broad and applied knowledge of molecular genetics, genomics and trait improvement in animals and/or plants

• Demonstrated national and international regulatory experience in livestock, poultry or crops is required

• Must have a thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and laws pertaining to the field
• High degree of leadership skills in an international setting and diverse cultures - with direct as well as “dotted line” relationships, able to integrate and steer highly diverse teams
• Strong entrepreneurial, strategic, and managerial skills, balancing opportunities, and risks for the benefit of Cobb
• Strong self-motivating driver who seeks continuous improvement and supports decision-making at various levels of the organization
• Demonstrated ability to plan and lead change while supervising, coaching, and developing individual contributors in a collaborative environment
