The Resource Medical Assistant meets all criteria for MA – Level II and is a model for the team in managing patient flow, assisting providers, and anticipating their needs. The Resource MA expands upon the role of Medical Assistant to assume a greater degree of responsibility, taking a lead role in coordinating unit activities, promoting teamwork, and working on group projects. Provides excellent customer service to patients, health center staff and outside agencies. Provides quality support and care to patients by working as a multidisciplinary care team member across the health center. Provides overall leadership, training and cross-training, mentorship to the Medical Assistants and Medical Assistant Students and assist with schedules management to ensure task and workflow readiness. Conduct joint recruitment and evaluation of MAs with Administrator Director. Co-facilitate MA Team meetings and facilitate quality assurance activities among MAs. Also provide quality supportive care to patients by working as an MA when needed.- vital signs, O2 sat, pain scale (0-10)

- Responsible for facilitating effective team and patient communication throughout the visit
- Ensures efficient patient flow per departmental requirements and supports providers and team in overall coordination and delivery of care. Actively participates in patient visits per departmental protocol including but not limited to: rooming patients, obtaining chief complaint, addressing BPAs, and obtaining pertinent history.
- All documentation should be complete and done in an efficient and timely manner. Proficient in the use of the electronic medical record (Epic) as it pertains to department-based workflows and guidelines
- Interacts with patients and other staff in a professional and respectful manner, which reflects the needs and concerns of patients and staff. Consistently provides excellent customer service and makes patients feel welcome. Maintains a positive attitude
- Monitors or chaperones exams as appropriate, assists in procedures or treatments as requested by providers.
- Assists with patient ambulating and transfers to/from chair, stretchers and exam table. Assists with undressing, gowning and dressing as needed.
- Stocks exam rooms and utility rooms daily with medical supplies and forms needed.
- Cleans exam rooms and equipment daily and as needed.
- Proficient and accurate use of current EBNHC electronic applications
- Demonstrates excellent discretion and judgment needed to act independently with decision making responsibilities. Assists patients to resolve complaints or concerns and provides communication to the Admin director or MA Manager as appropriate. Promotes a sense of team work through demonstration of self-direction and self-motivation. Solves problems independently and knows when to seek consultation. Available to help guide others with problem solving as needed.
- Assists with forms, letters, and other clinical paperwork as directed. Makes sure that all clinical paperwork is properly labeled.
- Answers telephones, and calls patients as requested by practice staff.
- Performs activities such as booking/canceling/confirming appointments, processing outside referrals, and filing.
- Escorts patients to various departments as seen necessary.
- Reports delays in supply orders, safety and equipment problems, and malfunctioning or missing equipment. Assist the team in problem solving workflows around equipment problems. Coordinate the maintenance and repair of clinical equipment working closely with vendors and other staff impacted by this process.

- Monitor that any exam room solutions supplies are dated when opened and disposed of promptly when expired as applicable to Dept needs. Responsible for ensuring exam rooms are kept clean and fully stocked with both medical and clerical supplies. Assuring medical supplies are up to date.

- Leadership Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Resource MA is expected to excel at all the essential duties and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant in addition to the ones listed below:
- Coordinates daily medical assistant assignments, meal break coverage, and facilitate appropriate deployment of staff in support of patient / provider flow. Facilitates optimal use of standby time by medical assistants in the department.
- Assists in coordinating MA vacations and time off requests. Assist with unplanned and planned earned time coverage for the team / receives unplanned call out notification.
- Acts as a preceptor, coach and mentor by training and orientating new medical assistants, ensuring their initial competency oversees the new employees. Facilitate overall orientation.
- Responsible for evaluating and maintaining departmental workflows and adjusting as needed. Work collaboratively with the Resource Nurse alongside the Administrator Director on promoting ongoing quality and implementation of new initiatives and workflows.
- Orders and manages clinical supplies with Manager approval.
- Responsible for maintaining special equipment such as high level disinfection equipment, audiometer care, ultrasound machine, and probe maintenance and other department specific equipment.
- Manages the maintenance of all staff education materials.
Salary: Starting at $26.60/hr up to $40/hr based on experience
- Regularly holds meetings with medical assistants to review workflows, discuss ways of improving quality of care and department operations.
- Participates in departmental process redesign, QI activities and special projects as assigned.
- Acts as a resource and role model to staff. Assists in identifying role conflicts.
- Acts as a mentor or preceptor for new medical assistants and student medical assistants. Works with Administrator Director to orient and train new staff and providers to daily practice operations. Contributes to performance evaluations for medical assistants.
- Ability to identify and problem solve unusual patient care scenario including complaints and incidents. Solve problems independently and knows when to seek consultation.
- Assign MAs to interpretation duties and assist in identifying interpreters
- Oversees review of all practice providers’ schedules for appropriate bookings.
- Take initiative for advancing the role of MAs in the organization. Advocates on behalf of the MA and acts as intermediary between medical assistant and other EBNHC staff
