Role summary:
Walmart is seeking a Principal Data Scientist specializing in Computer Vision to build and scale AI capabilities across Global Governance. This role will focus on applying computer vision, multimodal AI, and advanced machine learning to high-impact use cases across Global Security,  Product Safety, Compliance, and related domains. You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and Business teams to develop production-grade vision systems, improve detection and decision-making, and create reusable capabilities that operate reliably at Walmart scale.
About the team:
The Global Governance Technology team develops advanced technology and AI solutions to safeguard Walmart, its associates, customers, and business operations across key governance and risk areas. The team addresses complex challenges in Security, Compliance, Investigations, Privacy, Legal, Product Safety, and Global Trade. Emphasizing accuracy, reliability, privacy, explainability, and scalability, the team leverages expertise in machine learning, data modeling, and predictive analytics to deliver impactful, trustworthy solutions that support critical business functions worldwide.
What you'll do:
Design and deliver production-scale computer vision solutions across detection, classification, tracking, segmentation, video understanding, anomaly detection, and multimodal AI. Develop end-to-end pipelines spanning data collection, labeling, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and model improvement. Partner with Engineering to optimize inference, latency, cost, and edge/cloud deployment. Establish reusable computer vision frameworks and evaluation standards, support responsible AI and privacy requirements, and translate business problems into measurable technical solutions. Mentor other scientists and contribute to technical direction across Global Governance.
What you'll bring:
Deep expertise in computer vision, deep learning, and applied machine learning, with hands-on experience building and deploying production vision systems. Strong knowledge of modern vision architectures, video analytics, object detection, tracking, segmentation, multimodal models, and representation learning is expected. Experience with Python and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, along with large-scale data pipelines, model serving, and MLOps, is important. You should bring strong analytical judgment, experience working with noisy real-world data, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams. The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
