Mann Eye Institute

Mann Eye Institute is seeking a dependable and patient-focused Phlebotomist to support our PRP plasma tear services. This position is responsible for safely and accurately collecting blood while providing a professional and comfortable experience for our patients.

This is a traveling position that requires regular travel between multiple Mann Eye Institute locations based on patient schedules and operational needs. The ideal candidate will be flexible, detail-oriented, and confident performing venipuncture in a clinical setting.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Review patient schedules and confirm that provider orders, labels, documentation, and supplies are ready before blood collection.
• Verify patient identity using approved procedures and ensure information matches the order, medical record, labels, and collection documentation.
• Explain the blood collection process and help patients feel comfortable throughout their visit.
• Perform venipuncture and collect required blood volumes using proper aseptic technique, PPE, and sharps-safety practices.
• Follow established procedures for handling blood collected for PRP plasma tear services.
• Monitor patients during and immediately following blood collection and promptly escalate safety concerns.
• Accurately document patient and collection information in the medical record and required tracking systems.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
• Clean and disinfect collection areas and equipment between patients.
• Properly dispose of sharps and regulated medical waste.
• Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies and remove expired, damaged, or compromised materials from use.
• Promptly report labeling or identification discrepancies, spills, exposures, needlestick injuries, equipment issues, and other process concerns.
• Travel regularly between assigned Mann Eye Institute locations and adapt to different clinic schedules and workflows.
• Participate in required training, competency assessments, continuing education, and quality-improvement activities.
• Assist with other duties as assigned within your training, competency, and permitted scope of practice.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program.
• Demonstrated competency in venipuncture and blood collection.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Knowledge of patient identification, labeling, infection prevention, bloodborne-pathogen precautions, and sharps safety.
• Ability to recognize patient reactions and promptly escalate concerns.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
• Professional communication and patient-service skills.
• Dependable, punctual, flexible, and able to work collaboratively with others.
• Ability to stay organized and adapt to changing schedules and locations.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly between multiple Mann Eye Institute locations.
• Ability to successfully complete Mann Eye Institute-required training and competency validation for PRP plasma tear blood collection 

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Responsibilities may require prolonged standing, walking, or sitting, as well as bending, reaching, grasping, repetitive hand movements, and fine motor skills necessary for venipuncture and labeling. The position also requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and travel between assigned locations.

This position works in office, clinical, surgical, and approved material-handling areas. The employee may be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, sharps, cleaning products, and medical equipment. All required PPE, infection-prevention, and exposure-control procedures must be followed.
