Assigned to:  Municipal Court

The City of Casper Municipal Court is seeking a professional and dependable Part-Time Court Security Officer to help maintain a safe and secure environment for judges, employees, defendants, and members of the public.

This position is a great opportunity for someone with law enforcement, detention, corrections, courtroom, or security experience who is looking for meaningful part-time work. Working 20 hours or less per week, the Court Security Officer provides a visible security presence, monitors for potential concerns, and helps ensure Municipal Court proceedings and City Council meetings can be conducted safely and professionally.


Incumbents are responsible for maintaining general security and safety in the courtroom for staff, judges, defendants, and spectators. 

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Receives general supervision from the Clerk of Municipal Court or higher-level management staff.


1.  Provides visible security presence for the courtroom, City Council meetings and work sessions; assesses possible threats and removes disruptive individuals.

2.  Operates screening devices and machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; checks/searches handbags, briefcases, and other items. 

3.  Monitors courtrooms and City Council meeting spaces for adverse situations; intervenes to prevent escalation of problems. 

4.  Identifies individuals in custody with a scheduled video and/or physical court appearances.

5.  Answers questions for defendants, the general public, attorneys and any other individuals present at the hearings and assists as needed. 

6.  May provide general clerical support by copying documents, filing, entering data, and providing customer service; may enter citation information into applicable databases and/or other computerized system.

7.  Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

8.  Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION 
•High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
•Associates degree in criminal justice, legal studies, or a related field preferred.
•Minimum of one year experience in law enforcement or security or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below.
•Previous experience working for a detention center or as courtroom security preferred.
•P.O.S.T. certified within the last year or training in detention, command and control, deadly force, and less-than-deadly-force preferred.


LICENSING and CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
•Possession of a valid Wyoming Driver’s License is preferred.
