Responsible for regulatory oversight of all environment of care/non-clinical functions, including but not limited to: scheduling inspections required by Joint Commission, California Title 20 regulations, Haz Mat inspections and reports, OSHA, Life Safety Inspections and drills, review of related reports, and resolution of deficiencies noted on such reports. Partners with the Facilities Department to accomplish these tasks. Reports to the Director of Physical Environment. Attends committees as assigned and applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

License /Certification

Required:
Valid California Driver’s License. Must provide DMV report prior to offer being made. No driving infractions 5 years prior to hire or during time in this job. Infractions include DUI, Suspended or Revoked License, Reckless Driving.
Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer.

Preferred: Certified Life Safety Specialist- Healthcare within 60 days of hire/transfer
OSHA 10 Certification within 60 days of hire/transfer 

Experience

Required:
Three years’ experience in working with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission Environment of Care (EOC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Center for Medicare Services (CMS).
Three years management experience or any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential

Ensures Kaweah Health safety operations and a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors.

Assists the department director to plan, organize, supervise, coordinate and control the activities of the Life Safety team and its responsibilities.

Assigns job responsibilities to staff on duty.

Monitors daily workflow and work assignments to insure tasks are performed in a timely manner and checks for any inappropriate practices. 

Ensures staff are in place working at start of shift, taking appropriate breaks at proper times, and working throughout entire shift up to clocking out.

Provides training for new staff, and maintains competencies of all applicable staff.

Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all District staff and leaders.

Assists in maintaining up-to-date Kaweah Health safety policies and procedures to ensure the minimization of potential accidents and compliance with regulatory agencies.

Assists in providing Safety Orientation of Kaweah Health policies and procedures to all new facilities employees and assists in department monthly and annual Safety in-services for continuous education. (Areas specific to general safety, disaster preparedness, hazardous materials management, etc.).

Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the field of safety as it relates to medical institutions and as required by Joint Commission, state hospital licensing agencies, OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local agencies. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws/regulations.

In conjunction with the education department ensures hospital staff have attended programs and are prepared for the various regulatory inspections, including but not limited to Joint Commission, Fire Marshall visits, County and State visits.

In conjunction with the facilities department and the Environmental of Care ensures the organization is prepared for the various regulatory inspections, including but not limited to Joint Commission, CMS, CDPH, Fire Marshall visits, County and State visits.

Assists in maintaining the facilities department Hazardous Materials and chemical inventories along with keeping SDS’s updated. Monitors an annual assessment of the hazardous material handling program.

Coordinates hazardous waste storage and disposal procedures, the completion of required documentation, and monitoring of licensed haulers with the assistance of the EOC chairperson, and working with Purchasing and Finance.

In conjunction with the appropriate Facility Staff, monitors the Performance Improvement indicators for the, Life Safety and Critical testing documentation, PM’s and etc.

Coordinates and assists with trend analysis and problem solving for all safety concerns. On a quarterly basis, prepares Safety Performance Improvement results to be presented to the Environment of Care Committee and others as necessary.

Coordinates hazard surveillance rounds and recommends corrective actions. Notifies department of issues and tracks/trends responses. Conducts Interim Life Safety rounds in construction areas and ensures compliance with Life Safety Codes.

Issues and tracks Fire Wall permits and rechecks work performed to insure fire wall penetrations have been installed/sealed to code. Inspects and insures fire walls are sealed and kept to code on a regular basis.

Ensures the hospital’s EPA License and “Permit by Rule” registrations are kept up to date in conjunction with Finance. This includes monitoring the credentials of the licensed hauler.

Assists in the development of the Annual Assessments for the seven Environment of Care and disaster programs with the assistance of Purchasing and Finance departments.

Reviews all EOC related inspection reports and related resolution of identified issues on such reports.

Schedules routine and emergency maintenance on EOC related equipment such as fire alarms, sprinklers, Medical gas systems, etc.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.

Pay Range

$36.00 -$54.00
