What is the opportunity?
Join our innovative PayEdge Technology team at RBC, where we're revolutionizing payment solution for commercial clients. We are seeking a Senior API Developer to build the robust and scalable APIs. As a key player, you'll contribute to every stage of the software development life cycle, focusing on quality, maintainability, performance, and reliability. If you're a team-oriented developer with a strong technical foundation, excellent problem-solving skills, and proficiency in language like Java, and framework like Spring Boot, let's build the future of payments together.
What will you do:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance REST and/or GraphQL APIs
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, engineers, and infrastructure teams to define API specifications and requirements
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code; Conduct code reviews and foster a culture of technical excellence
- Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams on deployment, monitoring and CI/CD
- Optimize API performance, scalability, and reliability through continuous monitoring and improvement
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and API specifications
- Integrate internal systems with third-party applications and services
- Ensure adherence to security standards and implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, such as OAuth 2.0, JWT and API keys
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 4 years focused on API development
- Expert-level proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, Go, or Node.js)
- Deep understanding of API design patterns, REST principles, and HTTP protocols
- Strong experience with relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL data stores
- Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Demonstrated expertise in unit testing, integration testing, and debugging
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to work in an Agile environment
- Good communication and collaboration abilities.
- A passion for technology and a love of software development culture
Nice to have:
- Experience with Microservices and event-driven architecture
- Familiarity with API gateways and API management platform
- Experience designing high-volume or mission-critical APIs
- Knowledge of financial data exchange standards and frameworks
- Knowledge of caching, messaging and async processing technologies
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and the ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
