This role is responsible for the strategy, modernization, delivery, and lifecycle management of enterprise middleware and application runtime products. It defines product vision and investment priorities, advances secure and resilient self-service platform capabilities, and partners across business, architecture, engineering, and operations to deliver measurable outcomes within established timelines.
This job is responsible for maximizing the value for one or more products. Key responsibilities include working with stakeholders to understand their needs, and with product owners or specialists to ensure they are aligning on priorities. Job expectations include ensuring delivery of products that meet client needs, establishing client expectations, including features, security, availability, resiliency, timelines and costs.
Responsibilities:
Define the product vision, multiyear roadmap, service portfolio, technology investment priorities, and measurable outcomes for enterprise middleware and application runtime platforms
Modernize existing products by simplifying service variants, standardizing supported patterns, containerizing where appropriate, reducing technical debt, and establishing clear upgrade and retirement paths
Drive Middleware as a Service and Runtime as a Service capabilities that can be provisioned and managed through APIs, approved Terraform modules, Ansible automation, CI/CD, and catalog-driven self-service workflows
Create an AWS-like consumption experience with standardized service APIs, automated policy enforcement, declarative configuration, lifecycle automation, transparent service levels, and minimal manual platform-team involvement
Partner with architecture and engineering to establish reusable blueprints and reference patterns for virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift, embedded runtimes, private cloud, and public cloud
Own platform adoption, onboarding, documentation, developer enablement, product communications, vendor strategy, licensing optimization, and value realization
Define the enterprise application runtime strategy for agentic applications, ensuring that new agent capabilities are provided as governed, reusable platform services rather than isolated application implementations
Agentic application platform strategy: As applications evolve from deterministic services into AI agents that reason, invoke tools, retain context, coordinate work, and initiate actions, the middleware layer must evolve from application hosting into a governed agent execution and integration platform
Generates the vision and roadmap for the program based on customer requirements, industry trends, regulations, and the strategic direction for the business or technology domain
Communicates the program vision and roadmap to stakeholders, product owners and the teams
Oversees the budget(s) for one or more products by working closely with finance partners on both personnel and non-personnel expenses
Provides input into defining business capabilities and aligning them to products or creating new products to support them
Ensures product availability by partnering closely with demand and capacity teammates
Develops business cases for new products and additional features for existing products
Partners with the product owners and the teams to ensure that optimum value is obtained through technology and subject-matter expertise and understanding of the business and industry trends
Own the strategy, roadmap, modernization, delivery model, adoption, and lifecycle of enterprise middleware and application runtime platforms. Transform existing products into secure, automated, API-consumable platform services delivered through Terraform, Ansible, and self-service patterns comparable to public cloud experiences
Define the runtime and middleware strategy required as applications evolve into agentic systems
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in middleware, application runtimes, platform engineering, infrastructure products, cloud services, or technology product management
Demonstrated ownership of a platform strategy, roadmap, modernization program, backlog, lifecycle, adoption model, and measurable product outcomes in a large enterprise
Hands-on understanding of Infrastructure as Code and automation patterns using Terraform, Ansible, APIs, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud platform services
Experience converting infrastructure products into standardized, reusable, self-service platform capabilities with clear APIs, service contracts, controls, and operating models
Strong knowledge of application runtimes, gateways, web servers, developer platforms, security, resiliency, observability, technology currency, and regulated-environment controls
Technology and product scope:
Application runtimes
Tomcat, JBoss EAP, WebLogic, WebSphere, Apache HTTP Server, and embedded runtime patterns
Terraform, Ansible, APIs, CI/CD, service catalogs, containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift, policy as code, lifecycle automation
Security, IAM, encryption, resiliency, observability, recovery, capacity, performance, technology currency, audit and regulatory controls
Desired Qualifications:
