Description

 We are looking for the right person to join our busy, but friendly, nonprofit. The Trust Advisor is a part of the Trust Operations department, which facilitates the opening of Special Needs Trust accounts. The Trust Advisor speaks with internal and external resources, including prospects, attorneys, guardians and other referral sources, and clients, to support new business opportunities, assist with document completion, and resolve moderately complex operational and trust administration issues. This position also assists in the review of policies and procedures for Trust Operations, performs trust documentation reviews, and other duties as requested. A successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, with a background in financial services or investments, Medicaid, legal, or trust / estate experience. Must be pet friendly! We are pet-friendly, with dogs in the office daily.


Responsibilities & Duties - include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide superior customer service to prospects and industry professionals including attorneys, guardians, POAs, and other referral sources to support new business opportunities over the phone, by email, or by meeting virtually or in-person.
  • Interact with existing clients, advocates, and internal departments to resolve moderately complex trust administration issues. 
  • Meet with clients and advocates as needed to discuss account performance and asset allocations based on client’s financial goals, investment expectations, and risk tolerance. 
  • Review trust documents, including distribution and termination provisions, in preparation of acceptance to ensure trusts are accepted and administered in accordance with company policies, and state and statutory guidelines.
  • Assist with account closing process, including drafting documentation to state entities, process tracking and follow up, and communication with heirs. 
  • Act as a resource to prospects, clients and advocates, professionals, and internal departments regarding special needs trust administration, estates, Medicaid or other benefits, investment models, and more. 
  • Input, document, and maintain prospect and client information including phone calls, meeting interactions, account notes, trust provisions and more in company CRM and Trust Management systems. 
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with attorneys, guardians, POAs, and other professionals to network, market, and build business. 
  • Attend training opportunities to enhance knowledge of Elder Law, Medicare, Medicaid, and Trust Administration of Special Needs Trusts.
  • Occasional attendance at networking events, expos, and conferences. Some travel is required. 
  • Notary responsibilities to witness client and trustee signatures.
  • Other duties as requested.


Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
 

Work Environment
This role operates in an in-office capacity, in a professional, pet friendly office environment. 

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time, salaried in-office position. Employee is expected to be available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 9 am – 5 pm.


Travel
Employee may be asked to attend conferences or training for continuing education

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear correspondence, account notes, follow-up communications, and other business documentation. 
  • Ability to explain complex trust, financial, investments, and benefits-related information clearly and in plain language to individuals with varying levels of knowledge and experience. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and telephone skills with the ability to quickly establish rapport, navigate sensitive or difficult personal situations, and develop ongoing professional relationships with prospects, clients, advocates, and referral sources. 
  • Ability to handle confidential financial, legal, medical, and personal information with professionalism and discretion. 
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess questions, research and locate information, exercise sound judgement, recognize issues that require escalation, and provide timely follow-up.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills. 
  • Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable taking ownership of matters through resolution. 
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and navigate CRM, account-management, document-management, and other business software systems. 
  • Willingness to develop knowledge of Special Needs Trusts, Medicaid and other public benefits, trust administration, estate matters, and investment concepts. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments while maintaining responsibility for assigned matters and deadlines. 
  • Must be pet friendly!

  

  • Education Requirements 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of business, administrative, or customer service experience
  • Experience with financial services, Medicaid, legal, or trust/estate experience a plus
