Overview
Heavy Equipment Operators must contribute, both individually and collectively, to the production goals set forth by the Foreman and/or Superintendent. Operators must be safety-minded, reliable, team-players with quality communication skills and a strong work ethic.
Responsibilities
- Move materials, load trucks and grade as may be needed and necessary.
- Accurately complete and turn in all daily paperwork as necessary and required.
- Perform daily maintenance on equipment and tools as necessary and required.
- Inspect and perform general/minor maintenance and general cleaning of equipment.
- Communicate effectively with the supervisor regarding repairs and maintenance needs of equipment.
- Complete all training, testing and/or certifications provided and/or required by employer.
- Assist Foreman, Operators and/or other skilled labors as may be necessary and/ or needed.
- Communicate with drivers, scale house, and others, via proper hand signals and/or CB radio.
- Communicate with the office, as needed or requested, for paperwork and/or logs.
- Continually remain informed via checking your email and bulletin boards at the office or shop.
- Maintain a willingness to learn, follow instructions and grow with the organization.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the yard, shop and/or the office.
- Always adhere to strict safety standards, guidelines, and laws.
- Adhere and comply with the mobile device hands fee laws as well as all company policies regarding no cell phone and/or mobile devices during work time.

Hours
Monday – Friday 40-hour week (+/-), subject to change due to workload, weather, and job conditions.
Requirements
Qualifications
- 2 - 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a gravel pit, quarry or sitework operations.
- Proven ability to safely operate excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, rock trucks, crushers, screeners, etc.
- Extensive knowledge and experience grading, moving materials, loading trucks, crushing, screening, etc.
- Proven experience in site/pit/quarry layout, logistics and workflow planning.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from various job sites.
- Ability to work outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull heavy objects frequently and unassisted.
- Working knowledge of various power tools and machinery used in sitework.
- Proficient knowledge of hand tools and equipment used in excavation work.
- OSHA 10 certified and MSHA trained.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Continually required to sit, walk, talk and hear.
- Continually required to utilize hand and finer dexterity.
- Continually utilize visual acuity to operate heavy equipment/trucks.
- Continually required to lift/push/pull/carry items less than 25 lbs.; Frequently lift/push/pull/carry items 25 – 49 lbs.; Occasionally lift/push/pull/carry items over 50 lbs.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
