Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to receive advanced training in veterinary diagnostic immunology, serology, and applied swine epidemiology. The successful candidate will develop expertise in performing, troubleshooting, interpreting, and consulting on the full range of antibody-based diagnostic assays offered through the VDL's Serology Section.
Responsibilities include participation in diagnostic casework, client consultation, outreach and educational activities, and continuous improvement efforts that enhance the quality and impact of diagnostic services. The position will also support initiatives to improve service accessibility and client engagement for the VDL's international clientele, particularly in Latin America.
In addition, the postdoctoral scholar will conduct applied research on swine health, including evaluating and applying diagnostic tools and data to support disease surveillance, control, and eradication efforts. Scholarly activities will include publishing research findings and presenting results at professional, scientific, and stakeholder meetings.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent
- Advanced training and experience in swine epidemiology and diagnostic medicine
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Veterinary Epidemiology or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of and experience with veterinary diagnostic laboratory operations.
- Record of refereed publications and presentations (oral and poster) at scientific meetings in applied veterinary epidemiology, diagnostic medicine, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish, including the ability to communicate effectively with international clients and collaborators.
