Your role at St John of God Midland Private Hospital

This is an exciting opportunity to join St John of God Midland Private Hospital at the opening of the hospital in August 2026. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Scrub/Scout General Surgical to help shape high quality patient care within a modern, purpose-built environment. 

You will be part of a founding clinical team, contributing to the establishment of best practice models of care while delivering safe, effective and patient centred critical care services. 

The Position

  • Supervise clinical practice of all caregivers taking responsibility for standard of care delivered.

  • Initiate reviews and coordinate care of patients with complex health problems.

  • Serves as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.

  • Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.

  • Responsible and accountable for nominated portfolios as designated by Nurse Unit Manager and actively communicate with Nurse Unit Manager regarding updates.

  • Participate in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.

  • Systematically evaluate actions and document the outcomes of nursing/medical interventions (including monitoring diagnostic results) and report significant anomalies promptly.

  • Ensure documentation of planned nursing care and holistic care plan remains current and regularly evaluate documentation of the multidisciplinary team to determine their compliance to hospital policy.

  • Prioritise departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.

  • Assist the Nurse Unit Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.

  • Review products and equipment and provides documentation and education on evaluation.

  • Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Unit Manager, acts as a preceptor as required.

  • Participate in Manager Meetings as well as relevant committees and working parties as required.

  • Act as shift coordinator as required and in liaison with the Nurse / After Hours Manager/ Perioperative flow manager and monitor staffing levels continuously to ensure appropriate numbers of skilled staff are available within the agreed productivity targets.

  • Contribute to planning, problem solving and change management within the Nursing Division throughout the hospital as required.

  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team, to ensure effective use of human and material ward resources and coordinated inter departmental activities.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant internal and external key Stakeholders to build and enhance service delivery on a divisional and group-wide basis.

  • In collaboration with Nurse Unit Manager and Human Resources, monitor and promote adherence by caregivers to hospital policies, procedures and standards. Assist with managing performance concerns.

  • Conduct Performance reviews and development (PR&D) plans as directed by the Nurse Unit Manager.

  • In collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, support and coordinate clinical audits to ensure compliance with standards, guidelines, and best practice.

  • Assist Nurse Unit Manager with the analysis of audit findings and work with the team to implement improvement strategies.

All other reasonable duties as directed by the relevant Manager/Supervisor

You will hold registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and have significant recent post registration experience and the ability to practice at an advanced level.

To succeed you will have well developed leadership and communication skills and an ability to effectively engage with a range of senior and operational stakeholders.

About the new Midland Private Hospital 

  • A brand-new purpose-built state-of-the-art facility, currently under construction, located just 300 metres from the St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals Campus. 

  • A comprehensive range of medical and surgical services, with interventional cardiology being offered for the first time in the region

​The hospital will feature:

  • 96 overnight inpatient beds, including a six-bed critical care/high dependency unit

  • 33 bed/chair short stay and day procedure unit

  • Eight operating theatres

  • A Cardiac Catheter Laboratory

We can offer you

  • Salary: $109,599 to $115,681 (pro rata for part time) plus 12% superannuation

  • Permanent part time (0.65 FTE)
