The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $59,897 to $64,688 if filled at the Grade I Level; or $67,672 to $96,336 if filled at the Grade 20 Level, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.”

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Office of Eligibility and Support Services (OESS) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic professional to serve as a TERM Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist to help us achieve our mission.  OESS serves as the point of entry for federal, State, and County health programs targeted to residents of Montgomery County who are uninsured and have limited incomes.  The OESS offices confirm eligibility for Care for Kids, Prenatal Care, Dental Services, and Project Access specialty care clinic referrals.  We are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that supports your growth and success. 

This position determines eligibility for assistance programs administered by the Maryland Department of Health and the Family Investment Administration of the Maryland Department of Human Services.   The position interviews, processes, and completes Intake applications and redeterminations in Maryland Health Connection for all public benefit programs and completes all actions necessary to continue or terminate benefits in accordance with federal and state regulations.  The caseworker completes case management functions for all assigned cases.  This would include screening walk-in customers, obtaining, and verifying information necessary to determine eligibility, such as income, rent, household composition, utilities, and citizenship.  The position makes referrals to other agencies when appropriate, facilitates customers’ efforts in accessing information, partners with other public and private service providers, and performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Working Offsite Locations:

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Candidates with multilingual skills are strongly desired.

If filled at the Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist I Level: 

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

Experience: None.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.  

If filled at the Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist II Level: :

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience as a Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist I or as a specialist determining eligibility for comparable governmental assistance programs.  

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
