The Asian PWM franchise is an increasingly important part of the Institutional Equities Division business. The rapidly growing and fast evolving nature of this business presents unique challenges to the effective construction of risk management architecture to identify, measure and/or monitor the financial, non–financial and regulatory risks. Consequently, an opportunity has arisen for an Operational Risk Manager to help meet some of these challenges. The appointment will be at the desired level depending on the candidate’s existing level and relevant experience

The Risk Manager will play a key role in the ongoing development of the risk management framework for the Asia business – where clients are typically very entrepreneurial in outlook and very market focused. Specifically this individual will help to formalise the risk management approach being adopted with a special focus on Operational Risk the business takes in relation to its clients.

BURM is responsible for ensuring risks exposed to MSBAL are identified, measured (insofar as possible), managed and mitigated, as necessary.  BURM is an independent function that oversees, monitors, measures and analyses operational risks. As it pertains to the control and supervision of the operational and compliance risks.

As a member of the Risk Team, the individual will report to the Head of  PWM Risk Management

Key responsibilities included in this role is:

• Lead team to manage operational risk in accordance with the Firm’s Operational Risk Management framework including top operational risk reporting and other risk metrics and analytics
• Implementation and maintenance of the following programs:
  • Annual Risk and Control Self Assessments to ensure that risks are properly identified, assessed, monitored, controlled and reported
  • Legal Entity Outsourcing program including the certification process, inventory maintenance, status reporting, and risk / issues reporting
• PWM incident Management including incident data collection, analysis, and oversight as well as issues and actions tracking
• Perform Business Unit Information Security Officer role (review entitlements coverage, investigate and analyze information security incidents, segregation of duty assessments)
• Support regulatory inquiries, internal audits and compliance testing for the wealth management business
• Conduct thematic reviews for control enhancement/mitigation
• Coordinate various Asia risk governance committees and forums (Asia risk management committee, investment & trading review)
• Operate as the MSBAL Business Continuity coordinator for the region
• Ensure standardization and consistency in risk management policies and procedures applicable to Wealth Management
• - Partner with functional groups, including Legal, Compliance, Operations, Credit, Tax, FCG and IT to identify, assess and mitigate business related risks.
• Serves a contact for Information Security, Conflicts and wall crossing purposes.
• - Identify and participate in process re-engineering projects to reduce the residual risks of the department and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Perform independent reviews of our business against our regulators expectation
• Prepare documentation to report and escalate to senior management trend analysis.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• 7+ years of relevant working experience in the banking industry
• First line of defense experience
• Product knowledge of various asset-classes including equity, fixed income, listed and OTC derivatives and banking products
• An analytical mindset
• Project Management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrates Leadership capabilities
• Proficient in English,

DESIRED SKILLS (Optional):

• Risk, Compliance or Global Markets experience
• Previous work experience in a similar control/risk function within the business
• Detailed Orientated
• Cantonese and Mandarin (desired)
