The Managing Counsel for South Asia is responsible for providing counsel to the Power Segment businesses for commercial matters in South Asia, a region that includes the India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. This leader, in collaboration with their team and the broader Power and GE Vernova Legal team, will partner closely with business leaders to support business growth, compliance initiatives, and minimize risk to the business.
Job Description
The Managing Counsel, Power South Asia will have the following responsibilities:
Responsible for all legal matters for products, services and projects through the ITO, OTR and dispute phases
Provide business focused legal advice and support for the region for Power segment businesses
Advise commercial leadership teams on a wide variety of legal issues related to the segment’s operations and commercial transactions; provide contract review, negotiation and assistance on sales and service agreements in the region
Lead and integrate a regional team of commercial lawyers responsible for structuring, negotiating, documenting commercial transactions and supporting such activities across South Asia
Contribute meaningfully to the professional and personal development of the members of the Power Segment South Asia Legal team
Collaborate with commercial teams and assist in both market and product development to support business objectives
Participate in business/deal reviews and deal approval meetings in support of the commercial team in meeting their business objectives
Develop and maintain commercial policies and procedures and monitor to ensure compliance
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant industries to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business
Provide legal support and advice on dispute management and resolution across a range of jurisdictions and dispute resolution mechanisms
Manage legal budget to minimize use of outside counsel
Partner with compliance leadership to support programs, trainings, and investigations at all levels of the organization
Advise business on related regulatory issues and compliance matters that are specific to the Power segment
Monitor geopolitical, legal and regulatory changes in the region and provide recommendations regarding adjustments to commercial or other strategies to best position the company
Contribute as a member of the Power Segment Asia Legal Leadership Team to the shaping and execution of the team’s priorities and the development of the team.
What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications):
At least ten (10) years of legal experience with law firm and/or corporate legal department and experience in people leadership
Legal degree from an accredited law school and the capability for in-house qualification status or equivalent knowledge / experience
Mix of commercial and corporate legal experience
Fluent English speaker and excellent communication / presentation skills
Power Industry and complex projects experience
Knowledge of the South Asia region and experience with transactions in the region
