Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.

To be successful as a Software Engineer, you should have experience with:
Strong hands-on software development experience, preferably within banking, financial services, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
Deep experience with business process management platforms, especially IBM BPM v8.5.7 and IBM Business Automation Workflow.
Strong understanding of IBM BPM / BAW architecture, class hierarchy, process applications, toolkits, snapshots, tracks, instance migration, and deployment lifecycle.
Proven experience designing and delivering critical, complex IBM BPM / BAW applications with multiple modules, integrations, and business stakeholders.
Hands-on experience with Agile delivery, application design, technical estimation, unit testing, code reviews, release planning, and engineering best practices.
Own end-to-end solution design for IBM BAW applications, including process modelling, case management, human tasks, system tasks, coaches, services, integrations, exception handling, and operational monitoring.
Act as technical lead for design decisions, architecture reviews, code quality, reusable toolkit strategy, engineering standards, and platform best practices.
Guide engineers in designing scalable, maintainable, and reusable BAW components, avoiding known workflow anti-patterns and ensuring long-term supportability.
Partner with product owners, business analysts, architects, operations teams, cybersecurity, risk, and compliance stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
Lead production issue triage, root-cause analysis, performance troubleshooting, incident remediation, and permanent fix implementation for business-critical workflows.
Support upgrade, migration, and modernisation initiatives, including migration from legacy IBM BPM to IBM BAW, container-based deployment considerations, and alignment with enterprise platform roadmaps.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
Client Lifecycle domain knowledge, including client onboarding, maintenance, off-boarding, KYC, case management, workflow orchestration, and operational controls.
Experience implementing enterprise integrations using IBM BPM / BAW, including REST, SOAP, JMS / MQ, database integrations, external services, and asynchronous processing patterns.
Strong knowledge of JavaScript, Java, Dojo or modern UI frameworks, coach views, custom coach views, HTML, CSS, AJAX, and responsive user interface design within BAW applications.
Experience with WebSphere Application Server administration concepts, environment configuration, deployment pipelines, application monitoring, and platform-level troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL, including stored procedures, query tuning, and data modelling for workflow applications.
Exposure to DevOps practices including source control, branching strategy, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, environment promotion, release governance, and rollback planning.
Understanding of non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, resilience, observability, auditability, security, data protection, and regulatory compliance.
Leadership and Stakeholder Expectations
Provide technical leadership to a team of IBM BAW engineers, including mentoring, design guidance, peer reviews, and quality assurance.
Communicate complex technical topics clearly to senior stakeholders, architects, business teams, and support teams.
Drive engineering discipline across documentation, design traceability, testing evidence, operational readiness, and support handover.
Challenge requirements constructively and recommend simpler, more reusable, and more sustainable workflow designs where appropriate.
Take accountability for delivery outcomes, technical risks, dependency management, and production stability for assigned applications.
Recommended Seniority Criteria
Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior engineer, technical lead, or solution designer on complex enterprise workflow programmes.
Experience working in regulated environments where auditability, access control, operational resilience, and change governance are critical.
