Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney
Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.
- Contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of stateful microservices and lambdas in a multi-region cloud environment.
- Promote and support Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Scrumban by actively participating in regular ceremonies such as stand-up, retrospectives and sprint planning.
- Mentor engineers within your squad (and beyond!) to help them improve their technical ability and build their profile within and outside of the organization
- Collaborate with your squad, Product Managers, Designers, QA, Operations, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and articulate technical decisions and outcomes.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I who is passionate about developing high performance platforms.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Understanding of message based distributed, scalable, and resilient systems
- Desire to work in a start-up, fast-growth, or rapid-change environment
- Experience working on diverse teams
- Problem-solving skills to identify the root cause and implement the fix.
- Solid communication skills – written, and oral
- Ability to be flexible, adapting to changing priorities
- Fluent in multiple programming languages and an expert in at least one of: JavaScript, Python, Java
- Experience transforming requirements into software design, documentation and software.
Preferred Qualifications
- SpringBoot and related Spring projects
- Aurora MySQL and relational database design/testing/troubleshooting
- Non-relational database technologies such as DynamoDB and OpenSearch
- Redis and/or MemCache for caching, pub/sub messaging, and distributed coordination
- SQS (FIFO and standard), SNS, and event-driven messaging architectures
- Terraform and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices
- Expert with at least one of: AWS, Azure, GCP (AWS strongly preferred)
- Experience building, testing, and tuning distributed systems
Experience With
- Familiarity with both object-oriented programming (OOP) and functional programming (FP) best practices.
- Experience with Java and Spring Framework
- Familiarity with ElastiCache Redis (caching, pub/sub, distributed locking)
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch for content search and indexing
- Familiarity with AWS ECS Fargate container orchestration
- Familiarity with SQS (FIFO and standard) and SNS
- Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD (Conveyor) pipelines
- Familiarity with Datadog APM, logging, and dashboard creation/monitoring
- Familiarity with S3 for configuration management, artifact storage, and content publishing
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Terraform, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
